purple from the desperation and struggle, as you'd usually turn red, yet because there blue, red and blue mixed is purple, then they'd turn light blue/purple, due to the lack of air, the blood which is making their faces blue would drain to the lungs and the rest of the body to work harder to pump the heart etc. so making us paler and more white, it would turn them a light purple or light blue. Hmm, there blood must be blue, ok this is a strange paragraph.

A smurf will eventually turn black if you choke it. It won't smell so great either.
