More specifically, the kind that all of humanity would have experienced at one point or another in their lives, and can understand/empathise with. Is there such a love? I'd say motherly love, but then not everyone has been fortunate enough to have that. Perhaps the simple expression of love through connection with another living creature...?

I would say that the most basic love is loving and caring for other individuals. I think motherly love is the most instinctive, but the most "basic" love is something we (at least in this society) are usually born with, and with any luck, keep in our hearts. Think about the people you love, the people you love as a child, respect you have for these people, and the compassion. This to me is basic love.

Love is the energy which creates worlds. This is not an analogy. It is real, it is physical. It either flows through people or resistance blocks it. It is a fine energy, high and fast. It is powerful. When it is not allowed to flow, illness results. It is like turning on a garden hose then blocking the flow. After a while the hose starts to swell up and eventually it breaks. This is where 99% of illness comes from. People give it all kinds of names but the name doesn`t matter. There are also many suggestions as to how to remove the blocks. The book stores are full of sel-fhelp manuals, and it seems to be a growing trend these days. That`s a good sign. Maybe it is a reaction to people having had enough of the negativety the media is forcing down our throats. Look at all the compassion being shown and given on answers when someone writes in with a problem.

The most basic kind of love is experienced through our sense of familiarity with the likes of us. When we recognised something that familiar to our own being we feel subtle inclinations towards that thing, just like material objects exert gravitational pull upon all other material object, for example gravitational force of attraction between the Earth and the Sun, the Moon, and particles in an atom. When we see someone familiar in some far off lands than what we feel is not exactly love but not out of the ranges where love can become a reality. This love, in more accurate words affinity, also exists among animals, as say that birds of a feather flock together. This universal, natural and subtle thing is in fact the starting point of all that later on can become infatuations, amorous affairs, heartfelt passionate interactions and even deep love.

The best source of information on what love really is, that I know about, is Erich Fromm's "The Art of Loving."

In fiction, there are models of love, such as in Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities" and in Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged," although Rand's rejection of altruism puts her at odds with Dickens.

Ego. The love of self.

Watch any baby and you will see what I mean. Then watch adults and you will see basic "me, me, me" actions.

People will think *I'M cool. *I bought a new car.
I will wear my silk shirt so she might like *ME.
*I AM better than them.
> Notice the recurring "I"-word.

The more difficult love is:
She's not beautiful but she is Awesome.
New car? That would be nice. Why?
I need to save money, not for me, but to get my spouse something nice.
The baby needs her diaper changed- I'll do it. {guys. change one diaper and you will know what I mean :) }

Shoot, I do so much better with multiple choice questions!

I'm a' thinkin' that the most basic kind of love is the love that drives us to create.

I won't give it a name because that is subject to interpretation which is secondary to your question.

The first, and most basic kind of love, is the the love of food, health, sex, and family. These are necessary for our survival.

The second is wealth.

The third is power.

The fourth is knowledge.

And there's a fifth, but I'm going to leave it there, so you can find out for yourselves.

Good luck!
