I currently have my network setup so that my router (WRT54G) is upstairs plugged into my modem. This then creates a wireless network for my laptop and xbox (via WGA54G) which are downstairs.

I'd like to move my PC (which has no wireless card) downstairs. Is there a way I can set up my network so I have the modem and game adapter upstairs and the router (with it's wired ethernet ports) downstairs? So far I can connect to the game adapter but can't access the internet.

The modem must be connected to the router via wire -- however you may be able to move the modem to the location where you want the router to be? If not, you can buy another cheap router and link the two wirelessly (www.openwrt.org)

Option 1) The router needs to be connected to the modem so you can access the Internet. If the router is going downstairs with the PC, then you need a long enough cable from your modem to the router.
Option 2) Get a usb wireless device for your PC. Then just move the PC downstairs and leave the modem and router upstairs.

Hey try this, don't separate the router from the modem, if your router supports additional hubs, all you need is to buy a hub switch, and run a long wire from the router to the the switch downstairs, and there you have it..you have a Internet connection upstairs together with the game adapter, and a Internet connection downstairs for you PC..and won't loose a great loss on your Internet signal
