This song is sung in a Gospel style, with the voices of Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor multitracked to sound like a choir. According to Brian May, the Gospel sound was inspired by the music of Aretha Franklin.
Freddie Mercury wrote this. The lyrics reflect a man calling out to God, asking why he works so hard, but can't find love. At the end of the song, he finds hope and decides he will not accept defeat. This is widely reputed to have been Freddie Mercury's favorite song he ever wrote.
So all of them as one sang it.

Freddie Mercury singslead on both songs. Roger Taylor has the higher voice he sings lead on "Tenement Funster" and "I'm in Love with my car" , Brian May sings lead on "39"

George Micheal did lead on it with the rest of the band at the Freddie Mercury tribute show (Tony Iommi on guitar also - great show)

Queen does have a song called "Somebody to Love," and a version of it was featured in the movie "Happy Feet." Is that the version of "Somebody to Love" you're referring to? If it is, then Freddie Mercury sure as heck WAS the one doing lead vocals, with Brian May and the rest of the band helping out.
