You can't retrieve your documents - not at this point. Once you reinstalled Windows and software programs, you've made it impossible to retrieve them. As a rule, when your documents disappear, the first thing to do is to not save or edit anything on the computer. Files can be reconstruction as long as you don't write over it. Think of it like a VHS tape. The only real way to delete an old movie on a VHS tape is to record a new movie over the original. Sorry.

If you reinstalled your OS, I doubt you'll find the docs again. If they are there, they're in your account folder. Go to My Computer> "Primary Drive (usually C)"> Documents and Settings> "Your account name"> My Documents. Sometimes Windows will slip and keep a copy of previous files here. It's worth a check anyway. If that doens't work, run a search for the file you need to see if maybe your System Administrator automatically backups everyone work.
Hope this helps,

Sorry to tell you this, but if you have re-installed Windows you will have overwritten many of the files on your disk drive. There is not much hope of recovering any of your data.
For the future it would be wise to create a boot disk that could be used to access the main disk if the hard drive fails to boot. Norton have a suite of backup & recovery programs that can do this.
Sorry I can't offer a more positive answer

There are lots of data recovery software in the market. You can just google them up but I can't recommend one for your case since I haven't experienced that kind of trouble with my PC. Perhaps the best thing to do is to ask for technical assistance from wherever you bought your computer from or a computer service center. If you're lucky and I hope you will be, you will be able to find one with that recovery software I'm talking about. A similar thing happened to my friend in college and she just brought her hard disk to a computer service center and voila! they were able to recover her files. I hope that helps :)

They (or parts) can be recovered...But the cost, oh man. Unless the documents are a matter of life and death...forget it.
This is a time consuming and very expensive process, and not something you will be able to do on your own.
Chaulk this in the "Life lesson" catagory

Are you sure that you didn't accidentally login under a different name? If you were logging in as another user previously then your documents will be saved under that users profile. Either way, disavling norton had nothing to do with it.

Search the net for file recovery software. There are a few free apps out there but I can recall their names. You may be able to get most of your data back unless you reformatted the Windows partition when you reinstalled. If you did reformat you are out of luck.

Or You might try a System Restore = http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/getstarted/ballew_03may19.mspx
Using system restore:
1. windows folders will probably not bring back files (my documents, my music, my pictures. )
2. Desktop folders and files may come back.
