I would talk to one of your friends, who uses tampons & can walk you through the steps. No, you won't leak in the pool.

ok this is long because its step by step:

step 1) Buy a box of tampons. There are many different brands and uses. Some for normal flow, and some for heavy flows. Read the boxes to see which one you will need to buy. Usually the first few days are heavy, and the last few are just spotting, or light flow.

step 2) Use a personal lubricant (such as KY) and get the tip of the tampon covered in it. This is not always necessary but will make your first application easier, especially if the blood flow is light
.
step 3) Squat, or sit on the toilet with your legs apart. Bend over and use your finger to locate the place to insert the tampon. It is near the area that you pee from. Hold the tampon with the thumb and middle finger the cotton end facing the area. Place the entire applicator directly into the beginning of the vagina, using your fourth finger, to wiggle it in place. Then use the first finger to to gently insert or push the center of the applicator, {which is the cotton}, into the vagina. It should feel snug and comfortable. Pull back on the applicator with your fingers to remove. The cotton remains inserted with a string hanging on the outside.

step 4) Tampon with ApplicatorKnow that tampons come with applicators and there are directions to use on the box. Slide the applicator in and then push the tampon in through it. The applicator will probably be plastic or cardboard depending on the brand you buy. Read the box to find out about the applicator. Cardboard applicator tampons are less expensive, but plastics are easier to use. The cotton part inside of the applicator is the actual tampon.

step 5)Tampon with no applicatorRealize that when you insert the tampon that has no applicator, just use your finger to push it inside. Push as far as it will go comfortably—you will feel a resistance when it hits your cervix, which means you have pushed it all the way into your vagina and into the correct position. If the tampon feels uncomfortable, it's not in far enough. That sounds counterintuitive, but it's true. There's a ring of muscle in there that the tampon is supposed to go past and stay behind. If it's too far forward, the muscle ring will be around the tampon, and that's what you're feeling. Push it in a little farther, or take it out and try again with a new tampon.

step 6) Leave the string hanging outside of your vagina - you will pull on this when you remove the tampon. A tampon will not get stuck inside you, nor can it get lost inside your body. You can easily pull it out with the string, or with your fingers if there is no string attached.

step 7)Remove the tampon at the appropriate time. Realize that if you feel some resistance when removing the tampon, it usually is because it is dry. Perhaps you have stopped bleeding, or maybe just not bleeding alot. it is probably because it is too dry and needs to absorb more blood. In this case, wait a while longer so that it will have more blood as lubrication. When you first start using tampons, you won't know when it's ready to be taken out. In a few hours, take it out by pulling gently on the string with your muscles relaxed. Soon you'll get to where you can feel the difference between one that's full and one that isn't. It's just kind of an experience thing.
print this off and u should be fine

You can either learn how to put a tampon in or not swim.
If you go in the pool with your period without a tampon, you will bleed in the pool.

Just follow the instructions on the tampon box. The most important thing is to relax and not be nervous because that will tighten you up and make it impossible to get the tampon in.

You didn't mention how old you are but I started my period when I was 12 and began wearing tampons at 13. Never had a problem with using Playtex tampons with the plastic rounded tip but have never been able to use cardboard applicators. I swam, did gymnastics and everything like normal. Just ensure that you change it every 2-3 hours if you are bleeding heavily and you shouldn't have any issues.

Well......ur period will actually stop flowing when you get in the water. The tampon is only a protector for when you come out of the water. I am not sure how old you are or if you have ever taken a douche, but that is the same concept as putting on a tampon. Insert all the way but making sure you can still see the string. Me personally, am not a fan of the tampon, but in this situation they help.

I started my period when I was 11, and started using tampons at 13. Here's what helped me. First off, use the junior or slender tampons because they are more comfortable if youre younger or really nervous.
I had a hard time understanding the directions and it took me a month to finally figure it out. Once its inside correctly it shouldnt hurt. Follow the directions and relax. If the applicator bothers you, try OB tampons without the applicator, you use your fingers to get it inside.

You can't see the blood when you get in the pool. Trust me, it is like you stop bleeding. But if you are having trouble with your tampons they make teen sizes. The are about the size of a big pencil. Try coating it with vasoline and push while you put it in.
