as far as new cars go i think there is no difference between ford, chevy, or any other make. now for the older cars i like pontiacs and for older trucks i like International harvester company. they were built way better than ford, dodge, or chevy.

OK first off I'm a mechanic so my answer isn't just based on what i like. First Chevy's are generally cheaper to buy. Not because their cheap cars, there made by people who work on cars so their designed by mechanics for mechanics. with the consumer in mind. replacement parts are designed to be cheap money wise and and easy to find and easy to put on. And because of that fact they last substantially longer. They are more dependable cars, they are designed to be more accessible so if you wanna add performance parts to it or stereo equipment or whatever else its just so much easier than any other car. If you compare the same part like a water pump for a ford, Chevy, Honda, or any other car. It will be cheaper on a Chevy, easier to replace and most generally wont need to be replaced as much on a Chevy. In the mechanics circle fords are considered throw away cars and so are Honda's. Not too mention Chevy's are a heck of a lot safer in crash situations. Don't forget this isn't so much of an opinion as a fact with mechanics.

I refuse to be one of those people who says "Chevys suck" or "Ford's rule!" The reason for refusing to do that is I'm not 15 anymore, and I won't rate something based on what 'my dad has'. I've driven thousands of miles on both Chevys and Fords, and will tell you what I feel is the reason, based on experience.

Chevys have more creature comforts than Fords. The seats are nicer feeling, the radio angles toward the driver, they're just nicer to be in, plain and simple.

Chevys too are easier on the eye. By and large, Chevys are classier looking, which we all know can mean very little...not that it necessarily does, just that it can.

I would rather own a Chevy myself. I like the looks of them, and they're easier on ME, the driver. I happen to prefer the drive and handling of the newer Ford trucks though. The 150s and SuperDutys have just plain incredible handling. The Chevy Silverado, however, better at pulling a trailer (apples to apples, enginewise). Fords come with upfitter switches, in case you'd like to hook up a salt spreader or a wheelchair lift. Chevys have more room inside, and a better stereo.

Depending on what your use will be, Chevy and Ford are competitive in their own unique ways. Neither is BETTER, and neither "sucks". They're just different trucks to please different people.

People like Chevy's so much because their cheap and easy to work on, and parts are easy to find. For you novice mechanic Chevy's are the way to go, but when you start learning the difference Ford truly is built ford tough.

I love Chevy so much because the run so long for so little repairs! My wife's Lumina has almost 200,000 on it and I haven't spent more than$500 on it over the usual oil and filters. It still has the original spark plugs in it too(I'm seeing how long it will go like this). My '88 Z24 has180,000. My '89 1/2 ton truck has160,000. Same story -minimal expense and awesome reliability.

Great value. You can usually get more car for your money than buying an import.

Good dependability. People who drives imports because they think domestics are garbage are living in the late 80s/early 90s. Every reliability study is pointing that out.

Cheap to repair. Easy to get parts and plenty of dealerships means that when something does go wrong, it's not nearly as expensive to fix.
