I agree with you. We have had it here in Scotland for a year now, and its a pain. People should be able to choose a smoking or a non smoking bar. then everyone is happy.

Mind you ,you don't half cut down on the number of cigs you smoke when you are out

Smoking is an idiotic habit, its addictive expensive, smells foul and will kill you yet people still think "great i'll have 20 of them" I've worked in bars for years gone home night after night smelling of other peoples stale smoke inhaling the fumes from other peoples cigarettes, if i was to urinate on you in a bar and claim passive drinking i doubt very much you would accept it the same goes for smoke, many smokers are inconsiderate, lighting up in restaurants when they have finished their meal regardless if others on other tables are still eating. Personally i don't think the ban goes far enough as now during the warm summer months Beer Gardens will become the exclusive haunts of Smokers while families will be forced to remain inside or sit in clouds of other peoples toxic fumes, if it wasn't for the tax that the government would lose then i believe smoking would be banned altogether and rightly so!

Curiously, few people consider the lives and health of those who may not smoke, may even dislike it, but have no choice except to inhale the smoke for many, many hours, every day and every week. Some of these people become very ill because of it. Some develop very serious diseases because of it.

Those people would be waiters, bartenders and restaurant help.

There are court cases now in America and in other countries, where the basis of the claim is that the proprietor of the establishment forced the employee to work in an environment that was known to be highly unhealthy, and now their health has collapsed, the proprietor must stand and deal with the issue, much like the tobacco companies that lived under an umbrella of denial for many years, but recently had it blown open.

if you could smoke wherever you wanted to, say in a restaurant or bar...then non-smokers wouldn't have a choice of whether they were breathing it or not. non-smoking sections are still VERY affected by the smoke that carries over from the smoking section

since smoking is terrible for the health of the people that get stuck breathing it as well as those that do it, then smokers need to do it where they're only affecting themselves

plus, businesses lose money when non-smokers stop going because they can't stand the smoke

In England until July I don't have choice, I can't go into many places without breathing in the smoke from other peoples cigarettes.
The problem with a smokers bar, is that the staff have to serve in it, and have to breath in smoke from peoples cigarettes. Cleaners have to clean in it, and breath in smoke from other peoples cigarettes. If there is trouble in the smokers bar, police officers might have to enter and breath in the smoke from peoples cigarettes.
In Wales and Scotland, smokers still have a right to smoke, they no longer have a right to force other people to smoke passively.

My parents run a pub and both smoke. They think the ban is a good thing as they have tried to give up before (and failed) and think this might help them have more success.

They also think a particial ban won't work either. Partly because of pubs that serve food, partly because you'd struggle to get publicans to decide which % of pubs are non-smoking and also because some pubs are too small to effectively be split in to smoking and non-smoking areas (like theirs). The simplest thing therefore is to have a complete ban.

I agree with you. They have gone all out to punish us smokers & succeeded. If we all stop going to pubs etc there will be a lot of them go under. When the law comes into effect in England I can see this happening. If the government really wanted to stop us from smoking they would ban the making of cigerettes & all tobacco products only they will not has our taxes fund the NHS with plenty left over for the politicians to waste.I wish I could give up to stop them getting my money &
one day I hope we all succeed then this lot can share the tax burden.

I smoke but I completely agree with it im afraid, its not fair on the health of those who don't at least smokers get the choice to go outside, none smokers previously had no choice but to breath it in. Also im sure alot of people will now give up.

Having had the smoking ban in Scotland for a year now - i find that as much as that it's not good standing outside a bar when the rain is coming at you sideways! It's not so bad - you can go home and not be really smelly with cigarette fumes. I think that it's a good idea to have the smoking ban - and realalistically - if we can't smoke inside nether can you!!!
