Sweetheart, your question make you seem condescending and annoying.

Don't be a hypocrite.

Most people that I know who correct other people's language are not doing it to look clever, they're doing it because they are obsessed with clear communication and proper use of language. It's not that they're trying to look superior, it's that they can't help it.
Sometimes it's also that they are trying to be helpful, assuming that it's as embarassing for everyone else as it is for them to make a language mistake and are trying to help the other person not be embarassed by making that mistake again.
What I find extremely annoying is when people use words they can't pronounce or don't really understand the meaning of because they are trying to look intelligent. Nothing makes a person look more stupid than saying something like "That's the most apathetic thing I've ever seen." when they mean "pathetic". I had a boss who used to do this all the time, mis-use words and the above sentence in quotes was one of her favorites for about a month. She was trying to sound intelligent and it made her look ridiculous. I pointed out to her twice that apathetic didn't mean what she thought, then dropped it and let her look stupid. As we were in high end retail sales and these things were often said in front of customers, she really was making herself look like an @ss. It embarassed me to have my customers know I worked for someone so ignorant about words and language (sometimes the errors would slip into our printed brochures and literature!) but after being abused repeatedly for pointing out the errors I pretty much gave up.
Needless to say, I no longer work for that idiot and her business is failing...

This is a question and answer community, not a school house. I have also noticed that some people that correct others are many times wrong in what they are suggesting. They need to keep their answer focused on the question that was asked, not throw their 2 cents in about grammar, I don't think that they would like it at all if someone criticized them for their answer that they gave, no matter how outlandish the answer was.

I am not sure what you are referring to, I myself don't correct people. On here, however, I find alot of people using semantical arguments to pose irrelevant questions. For instance, there is a question where a person asks "Why are democrats always whining and crying" without giving any context or frame of reference.

I think that it is important to use English correctly, because if you have something that you feel is worth being listened to, you should learn to communicate as effectively and clearly as possible. Otherwise, it is a waste of breath.

Some people are jerks about it. Others just may not want you to go around sounding uneducated. They think that they are doing you a favor. Sometimes, people need to be corrected, to save them from embarrassment. Never in front of people though, that's degrading.

I agree but on the contrary using improper grammar makes you look ignorant or uneducated. It's kind of a double edged sword

Depends on how bad the grammar is. Besides, if by correcting someone's grammar they learn something, then some good came from it.

If I can barely understand the question/details because of the horrible grammar and spelling, I try to help that person out by telling them no one can understand what they were trying to say and asking to be more clear and to use the spell checker.

Some do.
While others are trying to be annoying.
And others just can't help it..
it could be one of their petpeeves.

I personally find it annoying, but who knows what the other person is trying to do.
