I recently found out that I am pregnant, and am overjoyed! I am roughly 7-8 weeks along I think, and that's where my problem comes in. I will be set up with insurance through a job of mine in about two weeks, but I need to see a doctor to do the initial exam and make sure things are ok, along with running all the needed tests. The problem is, I can't find a clinic or hospital that will do this and just let me pay cash. Everyone insists on signing up with their insurance, and won't work around that. Normally that wouldn't be an issue, but my work insurance is paid 100% by my job and I don't want to pay a first months premium for only a few weeks of service. Does anyone know of a clinic/hospital in the Virginia/Maryland states that will do this? I don't care what it costs for the first visit, but I need to pay cash. Anyone who knows for a fact of a place who will do this 1st exam, please let me know. I want to make sure everything is ok, and waiting until my 2nd trimester worries me.

I would just wait the 2 weeks. I recently had a baby and couldn't get to the doctors right away due to some insurance problems myself. The first visit is basically just like a routine gynological appointment. They will do a pelvic exam and a PAP test and also give you another pregnancy test. If the pregnancy test is positive they will give you an order for bloodwork to be done but most of it is for strains of HIV or AIDS. So as long as you feel confident that you don't have any STD's and you are feeling healthy just wait and don't stress yourself out until you can get to the doctor. I was a nervous wreck. Take some vitamins, (Flinstones Complete are very very similiar to prenatal vitamins and they don't have any questionable herbal stuff in them, but you'll need to eat some extra bread or something to get more folic acid) get a lot of rest, don't drink or smoke, and don't worry too much.

As long as you havent had more than a 63 day lapse in health care coverage then you should be fine. Ask the person at your job what your opition are-maybe your new insurance can start 2 weeks early. What about the baby's father, can you use his insurance to see a doctor? And why cant you just wait two more weeks and get set up with a doctor that you will continue to see for the duration of your pregnancy?

Ok, you are willing to pay ALL your doctor's fees in cash for your initial prenatal exam (which can be VERY expensive), but you are unwilling to pay your premium for a less-than-full month's services? That makes ABSOLUTELY no sense.

You basically have two choices: Pay the premium and get your initial consult now or wait the next two weeks out.
