Bush is a former oil man. Bush has given the oil companies tax breaks and Americans see gas prices lower during election times, then creep up again after the election is over. Exxon is reporting record profits. Coincidence or executive favoritism?
Too many benefits to oil companies from a president that couldn't find oil in Texas as an oilman.

The only control the government has over gas prices is the level of taxation they apply to fuel.

The US taxes gas at a very low rate compares to the rest of the world. The tax rate is a constant so it does not effectively change the day to day gas prices.

I was able to use it to my advantage in an argument. A friend said " Bush will never lower gas prices because he is an oil man " and told him Bush has nothing to do with what, it's Wall Street. Well when prices came down I said " Well Bush brought the prices down ." he told me Bush had nothing to do with it.

You can thank the Speculators on Wall Street for their hand in the pricing game. Can't believe how many people think President Bush sets the price.

Ok JonBandi so people who own stock from gas are as bad as the mofia. You must be an idiot and forgot that you are supporting the mofia, and you also forgot that our country runs off of gasoline. You obviously forgot that you are one of the people that are demanding gas. Way to go, I didn't know you supported the mofia. Isn't that like against the law.

And yet at midterms the Democrats used high gas prices as an attack on the Republicans and Bush and made empty promises to fix the situation and people bought it!

I think all Conservatives understand this because more of them are involved in business.
President Bush does not control interest rates either but it doesn't stop the liberals from blaming him when rates go up deary!

Actually the price is gas correlates with bush's insecurity over his small package. The more insecure he feels, the higher gas gets. Obviously, Laura must have made a comment recently cuz its getting expensive again.

You really belive some of his policies haven't influenced the cost of oil? If so, I have a bridge in New York for sale, I'll give you a great deal.

Also it is easier to price gouge when they know the federal government isn't going to investigate them .

I knew that, but what you have to take into consideration is that Y!A is chock-full of Bush-haters who will dream up anything they possibly can to blame on Bush. They think they're accomplishing something, but all they're really doing is showing their ignorance and bias.

As is clearly evidenced by some of the replies posted before mine.
