I just got a job and they want me to bring in a cancelled check? Does this make any sense to anyone? Do they mean a voided check for direct deposit or something? Why would they want a cancelled check? How would I even get a cancelled check?

(Yes, I know I should just ask them, but I want to get some info first so that I don't seem like an idiot.)

A cancelled check, is a check that has already been cashed (processed), it has a bunch of bank stamps on them. You used to get them with your back with your bank statement. However, today most banks scan them and don't return them. Most likely they want the routing info off the check for direct deposit. A voided check would be OK also.

A cancelled check is one that has already cleared. Back in the old days, banks sent all your cancelled checks to your house with your statements. Your employeer is probably asking for a voided check. Write VOID acorss a blank check and give that to them.

They probably meant voided check. A cancelled check is one that comes back to you after it cycles through payment, but these days you don't get the paper checks back anymore. It should be safe to bring in a blank check with "void" written on it. Chances are they want it for direct deposit.

A canceled check is a check you have written and has been paid by your bank. These are the checks you receive with your bank statement. If you do not receive checks in your bank statement, you can contact your bank for a copy.

Take one of your current, blank checks, and write "VOID" in big letters across the front of it.

They will take the information off of it, and then deposit your paycheck directly into that account.

Good Luck on your new job!!
