Using the logic shown here by those who have answered this question so far, that means that aperson who is super skinny would pay half of a regular person.....wake up and smell the coffee. The airlines are out for one thing.....YOUR MONEY!

Yes. because they are weighing as much as 2, they are taking up the space of 2. no one made them gain weight or get on a plane. If not, then the airline would lose money because seats would not be sellable, and that would cause the cost of a plane ticket to go even higher. Also allows the air line to distribute the weight better on a plane so it flies better and uses less fuel.

There is no doubt that some people are so big that they need two seats. The question is should they have to pay extra for confirming it? That has been asked here before, and the answer is yes!

The airfares are not per person, it is per seat. That's why a baby in the lap is free.

This is a very touchy subject. I think that if a person can not fit in his or her own seat, then they should have to purchase two seats or first class wich has bigger seats. I am not saying this to be rude. I have been seated next to someone before who had taken up their own seat as well as part of mine and it was on a 5 hour flight. I felt really uncomfortable for both of us. We were both miserable.

Jim G, you're an idiot. A skinny person still takes up one seat. So yes, they still need to buy that seat.

You will know the answer to this if you sit next to a really fat person on a flight.
