The top 10 players of NBA History are...Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob Cousy, Dr. J-Julius Erving, Magic-Earvin Johnson, Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, & Jerry West...now in my opinion the top 10 are (not in any order) Shaquille O'Neal (even though he is still playing), Magic, Michael Jordan, Dr. J, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, John Stockton, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman (defensive phenom) & James Worthy.

1. Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls - highlights could run for hours and hours.
2. Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors, 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers - basketball's most unstoppable force with 50.4 points-per-game during the 1961-62 season
3. Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics - Russell's Celtic teams won 11 titles in his 13 seasons. This is a feat not even the great MJ could achieve.
4. Earvin "Magic" Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers - the man they called "Magic" was simply a gift to the basketball world.
5. Julius Erving of the Philadelphia 76ers - "Dr. J" was one of the most dominant players of his time
6. Oscar Robertson of the Cincinnati Royals and Milwaukee Bucks - "The Big O" may go down as one the NBA'S best all-around players.
7. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers - A man not only known for his signature shot "the sky hook," but perhaps the game's greatest center and one of the most dominant forces in NBA history.
8. Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics - One of the game's greatest shooters and a true superstar
9. Bob Cousy of the Tri-Cities Blackhawks, Chicago Stags and Boston Celtics - Cousy ranks as one of the greatest passers and playmakers in NBA history
10. Jerry West of the Minneapolis and Los Angeles Lakers - West was one of the game's deadliest shooters and a great defender

10. Jerry West - So good he's on the damn ball! Great scorer, great defender, and as clutch as they came.
9. Hakeem Olajuwon - Dominated Shaq in their NBA Finals meeting. Only 5 quadruple doubles have ever been recorded and he had 2 of them.
8. Karl Malone - Best power forward scorer ever. #2 all-time in points scored.
7. Wilt Chamberlain - Legendary scorer (in every sense of the word). Record for points in a game, rebounds, season ppg average, and once had 25 blocks in one game (say observers. No stats were kept for blocks then.) His dominance forced rule changes.
6. Bill Russel - 11 titles in 13 years. 2 titles in college.
5. Larry Bird - 3 time mvp, 3 time NBA champ, 24p/10r/6.4a career average.
4. Magic Johnson - The engine of a team that won 5 NBA titles. 3 time MVP, 138 career triple doubles. The next closest stand at 84 and 59.
3. Kareem Abdul-Jabaar - 6 time MVP, all-time leader in points scored. The skyhook was an absolutely unstoppable offensive weapon. 5 NBA titles, 3 college titles.
2. Oscar Robertson - Once averaged a triple double for a season (30p/12r/11a average in 1962)! Most trip doubs in history with 181 career trip/doubs.
25.6p/7.5r/9.5a for his career.
1. Michael Jordan - How good was he? So good that commentary is unnecessary.
As for active players, well, there's a reason for the five year wait after retirement for hall of fame voting. It's just too soon to fully evaluate their careers. Maybe 2 or 3 of our current crop will find themselves on a list like this someday.
