you can't see the signs until about 3-6 months. If he is not looking in your eyes by 3 months, then ask your doctor about it. Right now your baby can only see 20 or so inches from him. Tracking will take place in a couple of weeks. Just wait.
By the way, if your baby is a girl, girls are 1/4 of the autistic population The term autism is much broader and looser than it use to be (which is one reason why the numbers are so high). If detected early, you can pretty much take care of most kinds with therapy.

Autism is usually dx after the age of 2. There are many tests that have to do to confirm it. Some signs my God child had were excessive crying for no reason at all, never sleeping, cried when held, but this can happen in children who are not autistic as well. So stop looking for things to be wrong and love that baby.. it is well to early to come to any conclusions. The baby still can not focus on anything that is not directly in their view and about an arm length away. Good luck.
*note: babies can see color at birth but can not focus til much later.

Oh it's far too early to tell at this point. It will be closer to 12-18 months before you can be sure that symptoms can be attributed to autism. As a general rule you don't need to worry about hitting milestones until they are 3-6 months behind as some just develop a tad slower. Of course this is just a guidline so if you have any concerns down the road don't hesitate to ask your child's doctor. Hope this helps out your mind at ease :)

It is far too early to tell. The first time it would be remotely possible to test behavior would be when they recognize their name. Generally, children with autism will not turn around when their name is called, whereas children without it will respond.
Also, the manner in which a child plays with toys could be an indicator. If the child becomes so focused on that toy in a world of their own and does repetitive things with it (dropping it on the table over and over to hear the sound again and again) there is a good chance you should have your child tested professionally.

Its too early, focusing comes later and you don't have to worry for quite some time. When you have concerns like this you can research them on the web or ask your doctors office, that will set your mind at ease.
All hes going to do at this point in his little life is eat, sleep, burp and eliminate. No smiles, not much following, may start when a loud noise, they get far more interactive later, but the first three months are fairly primitive.

You can't diagnose autism until a child is at least 2, I think. Your baby can't see very clearly yet. Everything is black and white, and very fuzzy. He can't see more than the distance from your breast to your face. It's very normal for a 5-week-old not to look into people's faces. Don't worry yet!

Most babies at that age just gaze around. The only true way to tell if your child has autism is through genetic testing. If you are really worried, talk to your pedi at his/her 6 week check up.

it is still too far early to tell if your child has autism cause at this age the child is still getting use to life outside the womb, and they still can't see anything clearly that is 12 or more inches away from there face. they say that a infant can only see 8 to 12 inches away from there eyes. and only bold colors. so if you noticed everytime you feed him heor she looks directly into your eyes that is cause he try to foucous on you.

Far too early to diagnose autism. Does baby make/hold eye contact with you?
Ask your pediatrician.
