My husband and I tried to get new car insurance and the agent told us that his license expired in october of 2006. They said it was because he did not show up in court for a citation he received. We never got anything regarding a court date or fine. We went to the DMV and they told us that it was suspended and we had to go to the courthouse. We are going to the courthouse tomorrow to see what they want us to do. We live in Maryland and so I just want to know what they usually do if you didn't know it was suspended.

Also, he got pulled over after his suspension for his tinted windows and the officer didn't mention he was driving on a suspended license.

it looks as though there is a mistake in the system.
All traffic citations are given in person so there is no way you got a traffic citation sent to your house other than red light tickets....lets say you got like 5 or 6 red light citations( where the camera takes a picture of the car when running a red light) then you might be eligible for a suspended license.
The problem is then why did you not recieve the notices...a mistake in the mail?...5 or 6 times is unlikely unless you have the wrong adress on file with the DMV....it is also possible you have a ticket or one of the red light violations from a long time ago that you haven't paid.
If you have a single violation that you do not pay for along time courts will suspend your license.
Hopefully you will find it is a mistake..goodluck.

I don't know your husband, so I mean the other people can be right, and he can be lying. I would say so that there is a chance he is telling the truth. My brother got a ticket on his car. He thought it was a parking ticket, since it was on his car. Apparantly a cop saw him go through a red light (you know when the you go on yellow right when it is turning red). Anyways, the cop put the ticket on his car, because my brother parked and went to the place he was going and the cop didn'tget a chance to pull him over. Soooo the cop put the ticket on his car. The name he put on the ticket was my dad's name since my dad owns my brothers car. So basically my dad got a ticket for something my brother did. A ticket that requires you to go to court.
Basically, there is a chance he got some sort of ticket on his car that requires a cour date and he didnt know. It may also have been someone else who drove his car.
As to your question: it is going to be hard because they will ask you... guilty or not guilty. If you say not guilty, they will postpone the date and that will be more time that his license is suspended. If they find him guilty, he can go to jail for lying. If you say guilty, you need to know the consequences. I think you can call the courthouse and find that out.
Either way.... good luck

ok, it is possible that he is not telling the truth, but I have a little story that could keep you more optimistic. My friend was pulled over in a traffic stop. She was taken to jail as they told her there was a warrant out for her arrest due to non-appearance in court. She was flabbergasted. Come to find out, someone had stolen her identity and used it when they were arrested. She did finally get it straightened out, but it took many months for her to prove she was not the one they had previously arrested. Luckily the justice system worked for her. This could possibly be what happened to your husband. You may want to go to a free credit report site and check your credit in the case that someone has gotten hold of your personal information. And, Good Luck!

You will be required to pay the fine and the penalty on the overdue ticket to get the license reinstated. It will have no bearing on anything else, as he was not arrested for driving with a suspended license. He should not drive until it is reinstated.

Your husband is lying. Ill tell you what to do. Get the car registered in YOUR name and the Insurance in YOUR name and let him handle his own problems. He obviously doesnt respect you, and he will NEVER learn if you let his mistakes fall on you. Once you start to let him handle his own mistakes, he will become more responsible, and you wont have to go through this anymore.
