In case you haven't heard of them.

The Monarchs were the 1st Champions of The NFLs International League. Called the WLAF now known as NFL Europa.

They had a cool Logo and Good players, unfortunatly the leauge recycled players each year and many went to the NFL so the roster changed often. Eventually team support suffered and The NFL moved them to Berlin. I thought it was dishonorable that they were relocated since they are the 1st International football champions ever.
They were 26-33-1 Watching the games really got me interested in London and eventually I visited.

How many remember the Monarchs?

I was at wembley when we won the inaugural final. NFL europe? Might as well call it NFL germany. It was disgusting what they did to the Monarchs. Gone but not forgotten!!

As a former season ticket holder for the Monarchs I can remember the highs and lows and look back on the times with great fondness.

Unfortunately, the costs of playing at Wembley Stadium meant the team moved when the WLAF was re-branded as NFL Europe and following a period of playing at soccer stadiums where the fields weren't big enough and transport links were dreadful, the fans stopped coming.

In their final season the Monarchs were renamed the England Monarchs and played 3 home games at Crystal Palace Athletic Stadium - which was extremely difficult to get to - 1 in Birmingham at another inaccessible Athletic Stadium and 1 at Bristol City soccer club. As watching the team involved round trips of 300 miles the support dropped to a level that the NFL Europe decided to shu the Monarchs down and relocate them to Berlin.

Subsequently, all other non-German based teams, with the exception of Amsterdam, have all been relocated to German cities. I don't know why they don't just call it NFL Germany!!!

I guess that's why we don't get to hear about the league in the UK media anymore.

maybe... i sorta remember i got the impression-

germany is the only country that seems to gives a sh!t about american football.
europe plays basketball and soccer. thats it.

nfl europe could be just in germany or they could move it to the usa .............sort of like the NBA D league that is recently up and running.
