Listen to them, hang-up immediately, curse, what?
I usually tell them "No thanks, not interested." Every once in awhile I'll hang-up if I'm in the middle of something or in a hurry. I figure they're just trying to do their job. I REALLY need to get on the NO CALL list!

Personally I do listen to them, and then if I don't have the time, I would apologise that I'm very busy right then, and then say bye.
However, do get on the NO CALL list, may I suggest you to try this...
next time they call, say "could you hang on a moment please"
then just leave the phone there for a long long time, kekeke...
my work colleague told me this... that's what he and his wife does.

I haven't had a call from a telemarketer since I placed my number on the National Do Not Call Registry. What a relief!
Before that, I started out by being nice to the callers, but ended up just hanging up on them.

I tell them i'm not interested in a nice manner, then when they won't get off the phone i just leave it and let the cat talk to them while i go off and do what i have to do. Or i turn the tv or music up so thats all they can hear. I've tried putting the phone down but they just call back Grrrrrrrr

I screen my calls with the caller ID..if it is an 800 or 866 number, I don't even pick up the phone. Last Saturday morning, I unplugged the line, so we could sleep in alittle longer, instead of getting the usual 8:00am calls. Some days the phone rings all day long.

Usually they call me while I'm bored and have nothing to do so I just argue with them for fun. I'll say "I'm not interested" and when they go on to tell me why I should be interested I say "did you not hear me? I said I'm not interested! Is this a bad connection? NOT INTERESTED!".
And when they call me at work, it gets really bad! I say "Can I ask you a question? What time is it where you are? Well, here it's 10:30 AM and I'm at work like most people. I'm not interested". That's when they apologize... and then tell me why I should be interested!
Those people get on my nerves.

I usually don't answer. If I answer I just hang up. Sometimes when I'm in the mood I'll annoy them by asking really stupid questions and saying ridiculous things or start talking about my period. Then they usually end up hanging up on me, hehe.

I don't get them anymore because I only have a cell phone now. However, when I used to get them, I would tell them I was busy just then and ask for their home number so I could call them back later.

I just dont answer then take the phone off the hook. Or, if i'm bored i'll use a british accent and just start talking to them like i don't know what they are saying.

never got one seeing as how i never owned a phone but my brothers scream in the phone or make noises to confuse them
