By far the Porsche Boxter S 41K, the Mazda Miata MX-5 is not a top of the line in anything. The acceleration, ride, and comfort is more in the Boxter. Maintenance is another thing. But it will be a good car for the next 59K.

thank you for considering my opinion on the matter.

Most of the people here have never driven either car, and only choose boxster because it says porsche in front of it, discrediting the fact that the miata is an amazing car.

Its really a toss up IMO though. The porsche does have the "bling" factor, but if you only want a car for the name on it you might have some serious soul searching to do.

the boxster will be faster in a straight line, a bit more comfortable, have a pretty much nonexistant trunk (even more nonexistant than a miata), cost a large amoun to repair (but they ARE reliable, but based on this price range, cost is a moderate issue), and it will be somewhat less reliable than the miata (esp considering used v. new, and that miatas are awesomely reliable sports cars.)

the miata is a great roadster. Many people complain about the lack of power, but considering theyre the most raced cars on the planet (outside of maybe the 911), id say theyre pretty great little cars. Theyre so much fun to drive, and awesome cars to own (i havent owned one, but I know several racers who have).

and i highly suggest buying the miata very slightly used, like 4-5 thousand on the clock (a common milage for people who buy them then realize they cant afford them, especially common in a miata because young people usuallly buy them). Itll drop the price significantly, and youll still get all the benefits of having a new car.

also: if Paul S answers, please take what he says seriously also. Hes very knowledgable.

You have to figure out what you want the car to do. The Porsche will outperform the MX-5 and has a MUCH higher bling factor. It's downside is that it won't be as reliable as the Mazda and the parts are far more expensive.

The Miata is a great car (I had one). Good performance, very reliable, but low on bling (and often considered a "chick" car).

Bottom line: If you want a cool car, get the Porsche, if you want a dependable car, get the Mazda.

Two different cars and two ways to go.
1. The Mazda Miata, fun car, new car warranty, plenty of dealership support, lots of choices for color, interior, options, etc. Easier to finance and easier to insure.
2. The Porsche Boxter, four years old, limited warranty coverage, expensive to repair, what you see is what you get as far as options, however it is a Porsche.
Given these options I would base the decision on several things. Are you an experienced sports car person who has a good mechanic on tap? Does the potential of a breakdown or being without a car for a week make you have cold chills? Does the image of German Superiority outweigh Japanese Reliability?
If it was me I would go for the Boxter. I have the money to support it, a fully equipped garage, experience working on and driving German Sports cars. If it were my daughter I would choose the Miata. Local dealership, good warranty, lots of cool options, a great little car with nice features.
Your Choice?

That's a hard one cause I like both and both are good. Miata would be fun, easy to repair, not gain much attention.

Porsche would be fun, little more to repair and would get attention.

Being that I use to own the original Boxster, the Porsche 914 (1972), I would have to lean to the Boxster. Nothing like a cruise with the top down just after sunset jammin' to Tom Petty, Running down a dream.

This is the typical question of a choice between a new cheap car and a used one that was more expensive Unless you can not live without the new car smell and a warranty, the best rule of thumb is to choose the used one. You get a lot more car and the depreciation has already taken the biggest hit.

there is no comparison between those two cars. i'm insulted that you would even ask such a question. thats like asking if you want a new trailer or a used mansion. which one would you pick!!?!?
