AMtTRAK runs between Boston and New York. They aren't bad during the day but if you are going to anything in New York that ends late (like after 7 PM) you don't have many train choices for getting along to Boston. If you miss the express at 7:30 PM there is one more that gets to Boston late the next morning (after dozens of stops that don't let you sleep).

Amtrak has several trains a day to Boston, almost all of them are from New York and Washington DC. Although it's actually NOT as cheap as people think.

From New York to Boston, you can take the Amtrak train, for a fairly cheap price.
