Reggie would have a very long way to go before he could get there. Emmitt lasted so much longer than the average running back does in the NFL, and it's no guarantee that Reggie will have the same shelf life.
Injuries, offensive styles of the team one plays for, attitudes, and personal reasons (i.e. Barry Sanders) can play into the length of one's career, and their production each year. Emmitt's record is one that'll probably be broken one day, but assuming Reggie will break it takes away from the ridiculously hard work and impressive effort Smith put into his long career.

NEVER!!!
Reggie is an exciting player to watch and will have some ESPN moments, but he will never last as long as Emmit did and he will never have the breakout seasons like Emmit had.
These are two different backs who do/did different things. I would compare Reggie to Marshall Faulk in that Reggie can line up as a wide-out to catch passes, but as a pure runner I don't see it.
The guy who has the best shot at catching Emmit is sitting in San Diego...former TCU GREAT!!! the new standard for the initials L.T.!!!

Bush might go down as one of the best all purpose backs, but Emmitt Smith was a prototype for what you want in a running back. He was a downhill smashmouth runner. That is something that Reggie Bush will never be. Reggie is used out of the backfield to often to ever rack up the amount of yards to knock Emmitt off his perch!

I doubt it. He is not starting in the backfield now and Emmit started from day one and carried the ball a lot more times than Reggie (at this time) so unless he startes getting the ball 30 times a game and plays for 15 years the answer is No. He's good but thats alot of yards.

After his rookie year people are comparing him with the leading rusher in the history of the National Football League? Will Marques Colston break the record for most recieving yards? Will Jay Cutler break the record for most passing yards? Will Vince Young make the Hall of Fame? Let the kids play the game and stop comparing them to other people...

i doubt it. he's more of a all around back (mostly he is a reciving back) instead of a pure-rushing back, like Emmitt Smith was.
maybe he will get the record in most total yards, but rushing yards? no way, Tomlinson is unlikely to get the rushing record too, and LT has a much better carrier presence
(well unless LT rushes 2000+ yards for the next 5 years, because RBs his size end around their 9th 10th or 11th year, and LT is going into his 7th year)

The question you should be asking is when L.T. will break it, NOT Reggie Bush!! Because as long as Reggie Bush is sharing the "rock" with Duece he has no chance... Besides, I don't think he has the endurance and charisma to even come close to Emmitt's record!

I don't think he will to be honest. He's one of those all-purpose backs. He wont have total rushing yards anywhere near Emmitt Smith's record, but his all purpose yards might have a shot at getting toward the top of the list...maybe. He caught for more yards last season than he ran, that's my point.

wow....who thinks of these questions? reggie bush will never come close...he will never have a 1,500 yard rushing season...and i don't think that he is physically durable enough to be a feautured back for an extensive amount of time...
as of now, i would have to say that the only runningback with a legitimate shot of breaking the career rushing record would be tomlinson...but you never know...barry sanders might come back for a couple of years, i'm sure he could still school some punks...

Who cares about Emmit Smith? Barry Sanders was a better back.
