Our blatant interference only made it that much easier for the religious hardliners to grasp power for all these years after they expelled the Shah. Given that many young Iranians are pro-U.S. even now, I think we would be looking at an entirely different country.

I'm not surprised that the government was seen as an enemy after it stole and nationalized many industries.

Perhaps the better question is what Iran, and the world, would be like had the US (Carter) not abandoned the Shah. No Ayatollas, and no militant Wahabi (sp?) response.

Maybe no 9/11 or other problems. Or rather, much less.

The Iranian revolution was a watershed for the rise of militant Islamic fundamentalism. Enjoy your "peace prize," Jimmy.

I think they would have pretty much ended up where they are today. Under the control of Radical Islam Extremists.

A much better question would be, "What would Iran be like today if Jimmy Carter hadn't allowed the Radical Islam Extremists to overthrow the Shah.

They would be a bit more advanced and prosperous.
The corruption would be rampant.
