I enjoyed some of the late Gene's music throughout the 60's and found that they are classic, in the sense that they stand the test of time. Songs like "The Man who Shot Liberty Valance", Town Without Pity and It Hurts to Be In Love are real memory blasters.

We lost a special artist with a special sound when we lost Gene Pitney.

Gene Pitney, what a brilliant singer and song writer. Born in USA 1941, he died in 2006, and has left a great legacy of memorable songs, which started in 1959. Between the years 1961 and 68, he was in the USA top 40, and had 40 songs in UK lists prior to 1989.

I am unfamiliar with the majority of his work and can only think of one song he did: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. However, that is an excellent song and even if that was the only song that he did, he'd be a good artist for just that one accomplishment.

Sadly, radio stations rarely play that song anymore so many might not be acquainted with his work.
