Depends on what a person believe. Christians use the Holiday to celebrate the Birth of Christ Jesus. Though it not His actual birthday, at is used as a time to think of this.
Some just see it as a time to be with family and friends and just have a good time being together and eating and watching TV.
Some use Christmas as a time to help others in need and share with those people.
And, I guess there are some use it for what many refer to as pagan rituals.
But, Christmas it what each individual makes it to be for them. It can be for good or evil.

The word indicates the Mass of Christ.
If you're talking about the holiday, with the tree, and the gift giving and the feasts and everything...
Well, that comes from an ancient pagan tradition called Yule (or Jol in the far north). It was celebrated for 12 days, during which time gifts would be exchanged, an evergreen tree would be decorated and richer foods would be left out for the Alfar and Wights (held over in the tradition of leaving out milk and cookies for Santa).
Hope this helps.

Peace on Earth, goodwill towards all humankind. Not Santa, not Jesus. Just peace and love and doing positive things to make the world a better place. It starts with yourself - be kind to yourself and love yourself or you can't love anyone else.
