It was built by Pharoah Khufu (Cheops in Greek) around 2500 B.C. There have been three basic theories as to how the pyramids were built. The most likely of these was that Egyptian laborers (NOT slaves) used a series of ramps which wound around the pyramids, and they used pure brute strength and rollers to roll the stones into place. But a new theory has been proposed just recently--one engineer has proposed that they were built from the inside out. There is a great hall within the Great Pyramid which has a very steep archway--they may have built this first and built the pyramid around it.

I agree with crossstitchkelly. She has described the prevailing theory about how the pyramid was built and by whom. Slave labor was more than likely not, the main source of labor.
