Never been to Hawaii. Which is the better of the two for a bit of night life yet laid back? Am wanting the laid back atmosphere but availability of excitement.

Maui has more nightlife than Kauai both are laid back atmosphere if you want that you can make it what ever you want. I don't think you will be sorry no matter which island you pick. You can actually go to both, which is what you should do. The islands are close in distance and they have several flights going to and from all the Islands. Maui and Kauai are my two favorites, it is hard to chose just one.
Pick both islands, you won't be sorry! Aloha!

I thought Maui offered excitement and a laid back atmosphere. You can always island hop if you need to find more excitement. Have a good trip.

If you want excitement, go to Maui, preferably Kaanapali. A short drive can take you to "laid back" but there is plenty to do.
