enough to do that?

It would do wonders for US troop morale, show the terrorists that he's not a wussy, show the Iraqi people that he cares, & if he gets killed he'll go down as an American hero & maybe save his legacy.

Your "question" is so disingenuous.

First, bravery has nothing to do with it. Wherever the President goes, his security detail ensures his safety. If he were to stroll around a Baghdad market, the insurgents would simply blow up the entire block.

Back in the 1980s, when the Italian government was vigorously prosecuting the mafia, an important judge was killed, even though he was in a long caravan of reinforced vehicles. The mafia blew up something like a quarter mile of road, just to make sure they got him.

If Bush went to a market, he would put everyone's life in danger. Actually, he would probably be the safest person there because his Secret Service men would throw themselves on top of him at the first sign of danger.

Bush would be putting everyone around him in danger. You know that. In fact, if Bush did exactly what you suggest and insurgents began a massacre, you would blame Bush!!!!!!

Admit it, you would blame Bush.

McCain can go there because he is not seen as so important. However, every unshaven, unwashed, semi-literate terrorist in a 500 km radius would be racing to the market to make history.

C'mon, you know all this. So why post such an intentionally biased question?

No President should ever put himself in harm's way. If he was assassinated, the country would be devastated. Anyone who thinks he should be killed is a low-life. I don't agree with him in almost any area, but he is our President. As for McCain, I think he'll do almost anything to get positive publicity for himself. By the way, why aren't you asking why the great Bill Clinton hasn't done that? His Royal Slimyness is too much of a coward to take a definitive stance on most things; at least President Bush takes a stand for what he believes is right (again, I don't agree with him usually).

Intelligent thinking would NOT allow a President in such an unstable environment. whether you like him or not, he is the President and needs to be protected at all costs. I do recall several trips, ie, Thanksgiving, when he showed up for moral support!
