Using Vaio and XP SP2. No sound from laptop speakers or headphoe jack but working through usb headphones. I have checked all volume controls etc and then disconnected usb headphones and set manager to use soundmax not headphones. device manager also shows sound cards etc ok??

AS I SAY I HAVE CHECKED VOLUME AND DEVICE MANAGER ALL DEVICES WORKING FINE!

Oh yah, I got the same problem in my lap top and as you said checked everything and finally found that there is no sound driver when I checked.
However, I can listen music on headphone.
Can you check sound driver.
Right click My computer
Click property
There will be system property
Click on Hardware
Click on Device Manager
Click + sign next to speaker Icon, with sound, video, controller
And check if it is missing?

Did you make sure that your volume sound options were checked in your program options??
