I agree. I was asked to judge a surfing contest. I found it frustrating. Maybe the execution of a move can be judged but who is to say one ride is better than another.(All rides are good. It's a matter of interpretation.)

Well, some of the events are about jumping the furthest, and those don't have judges. The ones that have judges are the ones who do gymnastic types of moves (flips,etc.) that require judging.

ski jumping needs judges as it has a three part scoreing
1st is how far you go
2nd is how you fly in the air
3rd is how you land
if they just do it by who went the furthest it would be a boreing sport

someone has to say who jumped the furthest and thats the judge
so thats why have judges
