The so called 'pentium dual core' is actually a Core Duo with half the L2 cache removed and as such has about the same performance as the AMD Turion X2 1.6 GHz (the standard Core Duo is faster than the Turion at a given clock speed and the Core 2 Duo even faster) so there probably isn't much between them except cost and other features (although the Core Duo does tend to use less power than the Turion but you probably won't be doing much gaming when on battery (or at least you won't when you realise what kind of battery life you'll get when you play games)).

If you're going to be gaming then you should really just get a decent processor (those will do) and make sure you get a decent graphics chip in your laptop (anything by ATi or nVidia should be enough for decent gaming though their lower end chips might require you to turn the quality settings down a bit, Intel integrated graphics you should avoid like the plague though).

Don't expect a cheap laptop to do well on recent games though.

I have the turion x2 dual core, and ok it may not have as much power as the intel, but they are better for battery life, and laptops with these are much cheaper, i.e. i bought my laptop for £670, as it had 2gb ram and a 120gb hard drive and at that time if i wanted to buy a laptop with the intel, and the same ram and hard drive capacity, it would have cost me over a £100 more, and you always ave to remember it is not always the processor power, that makes a powerful pc.

If you are not sure about laptops...I recomend a new pc as they are cheaper to upgrade....you can get a really good graphic card and a good processor for nearly half of that of a laptop system....

In 2005 i built a computer with Gf 6800, 3.6 ghz p4, 1 gig mem...the case and internals costed $1200

Graphic cards in a laptop are quite expensive especially for the high end ones...
