Prenatal vitamins , especially the folic acid, calcium & iron in them, help the development of a fetus. They also store the building blocks needed in your body for when you get pregnant, so it is usually recomended that you start taking them before . There are many different kinds but they all differ in content. The link below helps clear that up a bit!
They are well worth taking in my oppinion (I've had 2 children) but you should read a few articles on prenatal vitamins and decide for yourself. Good luck!!

It doesn't do any good to wait until you are 2-3 months along to start taking the prenatal vitamins. Your baby needs the folic acid from the moment they are conceived so it is better to take the prenatals 3-6 month s before trying to get pregnant.

It is a good idea. You should especially be sure to get at least 400mg of folic acid every day. A good prenatal should have this amount.
I'm not going to be ttc for a couple more months, but I've been taking prenatals since the first of the year to start building up the vitamins in my system.

Go ahead and ask your doc to prescribe you some good prenatal vitamins. You need to stock up on folic acid for sure if you know you are trying to conceive. Talk with your doc and he can give you the best vitamins for trying to conceive, and then may change them after you are pregnant.

I've never heard of Citracal before. Hoever prenatal vit aren't going to hurt you. My doc told me that reg. mulit vitamins were fine until about two to three months pregnant then switch to a prenatal vitamin.
Speaking w/ your doctor if you taking somethign that your not sure can be helpful/harmful while ttc. OR call a tele health line for some answers.
Good Luck!@!

It's an excellent idea. :) I recommend a food-based vitamin such as Rainbow Light Complete Prenatals as they are more readily absorbed and less likely to cause constipation and other issues than regular vitamins.
