I have had 2 experiences yesterday (Sunday). I am Asian-American and I live in Texas.
I go into a Cafe Express and there is a hispanic cashier. When I order and pay, she does not hand me my change, even when I put my hand out. She slams the change and the receipt on the counter, stares at me and says nothing. As I was waiting for my food, there were 3 white customers behind me. For every single white person she hands them their change and says "thank you".
The other experience is when I walk into a Supercuts where it is all hispanic. When I walk in, the door makes a noise to let them know a customer walked in. All three employees do not greet me or acknowledge me. I wait at the counter for 5 minutes. A hispanic hairdresser stares at me for more than 5 seconds but refuses to greet me. I sit down and wait 10 minutes before someone actually says something to me. Minutes later, 2 white customers walk in and the same woman that ignored me says 'hi welcome to supercuts' to them.

Yes they were racist and they weren't too subtle about it either. I had a similar experience the other day:
I was at a grocery store and I had grabbed some milk, bread, and a few other items. I had a total of nine items so I went through the express checkout where you are allowed up to sixteen. The lady took a big sigh and started counting each of my items in a snooty voice as she rang them through. When I paid she put my change on the conveyer belt and it scattered everywhere and she through the reciept at me.
As I am bagging my groceries she smiles and greets the white lady behind me and didn't count her items which btw she had more than I did. She handed the lady her change and reciept and helped her bag her groceries. As I was walking out I heard her thank the woman for her business.
It sucks but just be courteous to them right back. Eventually they might wise up but if not then you will still know that you are a better person.

Interesting, it proves that you don't have to be of white European origin to be racist. I saw a program from the Australian Broadcasting network about racism against Africans in Latin America focusing on Brazil. Latin America is a product of Spanish colonization, and the Spanish put an idea that whites are superior in their colonies, so Hispanics kiss up to whites. I am not surprised at your experience. Asians behave like this as well, so I guess the shoe went on the other foot. I noticed this a lot in San Francisco, where Asian hostesses treated white customers like royalty but other races were treated poorly. In fact at this one place in a suburb of San Francisco these two Asian American waitresses started commenting when a group of Hispanic customers left. There was a group of white males but they were treated much better.

Doesn't sound too subtle to me.
I would have asked the assistant who banged your change down what her problem was, and I would have approached someone at Supercuts and asked why no-one was offering to cut your hair.
I'd take your business elsewhere in both cases, if I were you. Their customer service sounds terrible.

Yes it is. But it wasn't subtle. If you recognized it, then I'm sure others did too. Don't go to those places anymore, if they keep treating you like that. But I would complain to the manager or the manager's boss, whenever one could help solve the problem.

Hmmm, this is interesting. How often does it happen?
If it's just those perticular shops then dont go there anymore. They sound extremely rude to have ignored you and to of treated you "as a customer" the way they did.
If it happens again just ask them politely what the matter is.
Good luck. I hate any form of rascism and im pure white.

Absolutely, and it wasn't subtle at all. I have seen this done so many times. You are preaching to the choir.
