The numbers from earlier times can not match modern war, even though the wars were devastating, because the populations were much smaller before the population explosion in the last 200 years. In 9000 B.C. when societies began to organize, earth held an estimated five million people. In 1 AD The Roman empire had 45 million people and the estimate for the world was less than 300 million. Today there are over 6 billion.

Throughout man's history, untoled multitudes have been layed low upon the battlefield. If I were to put a # on it, I suppose it would be 15.000.000. Add a few more million for civilian casuties and a few million more for ethnic cleansing - 20.000.000 all together.

a silly astronomical amount. the only answer is 'how long is a piece of string'? its being added too every minute of the day. Very sad and rotten.
