It has come to my attention that at least the Russians are saying that the USA will hit Iran very hard and Very soon . Targeting infrastructure, the elite Iranian guard, nuclear sites(one exception, the one with Russian workers), leadership, missile bases, ships, etc . Now this may, or may not be true or accurate, but they did get very detailed about it and claim the 'leak' of info was carefully orchestrated by the Kremlin, in an effort to get an emergency meeting of the UN to stop it .
Personally, I agree with the action , and have been saying the same for about 6 months . My opinion is and has been , that there is 'no way' that the Republicans will take a chance that the Democrats might win in 2008 and thereby leave us with a potentially disastrous situation in Iran . And if I'm correct in my assumption, then the action would have to take place well before the primaries and the elections. . .ala this spring or summer . Well, we may be there right now .

If it does happen, there's no amount of screamin and yellin that'll stop it .
So I ask that you consider the possibility that Hezbollah etc will likely attempt terrorist attacks in our country. . . . . and how are you gonna prepare ?
It's one thing to have an opinion. . . it's quite another to understand the reality of reality .
What are your opinions and what , if anything , will you do to prepare for those possibilities ?

Frag, Ed, and Plank - I asked for 'Thinkers' . Those replies don't reflect much thinking . And the Russians are claiming that we are massing troops on the border right now in preparation for anything . But they also note that the attack will NOT include ground forces and also claim that it'll last 12 hours !!

I had not looked at the political side of this. I'm sure the Republicans feel it necessary to handle the Iran situation before they leave. What I have been wondering about is the President of Iran. Something about him is unnerving; Like there is "something" up his sleeve. How to pre-pare? Well, I'm not in a very high profile area, except the master Naval jet base. But terrorists want to WOW the rest of those they do not kill. So, I guess the only time I would feel the need to really prepare was if we were under attack by nuclear missiles. Then I believe I would take my children to my family in the Kentucky mountains. Good luck finding us there...lol... and then those that do, wish they hadn't!

It's true that if Bush wants to do something it will be done. He has far too much power in his veto, which if abused gives him the status of a monarch. It is at least possible that something will be done about Iran, especially with the events of the latest hostage taking. Right or wrong, this action will probably take place - and anyone who thinks it will not completely misunderstands the nature of a representative democracy. It does not garuntee freedom or that your opinions will be listened to; it gives a certain amount of freedom and then 'more educated and enlightened' people make desicions on your behalf. If these people have it in their heads that Iran needs to be bombed into submission then nothing short of bringing down the government through a protest (not just a march, no matter how big) will stop them.
I am becoming more convinced that a TACTICAL (oh please listen to that word) non-nuclear strike may be justified. "Nuking those Iranian scum" doesn't cut it with me. According to the US Iran is not democratic - the people are not responsible for their leader or his actions. The people of Iran do not need to unduly suffer because of his foolishness. It is far better to get the people of Iran on your side - to be a friend to dissidents than an enemy to everyone. I believe the government of Iran to be capable of many evil things; the kidnap of the sailors and marines isn't right. Of course it may be 'justified' by saying "look what you did to our brothers in Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib - your prisoners are treated like kings compared to them". Yes this is true, but it doesn't make EITHER right. I simply don't believe that they want nuclear power for peaceful means - if they do then why not let other countries run the power plants for them like the Russians offered?
In short - Iran's government is quite probably (based on the current information.) after nuclear weapons, and based on their actions against other nations this could be disasterous. Therefore I think removing Iran's capability for producing nuclear weapons MAY be justified (and only this - no regeime change. That only works if the people do it themselves. Have ANY of the civil wars in south america the CIA started worked out for the US' benefit? Nope - they just have an awful lot of enemies) - but definately not bombing of civilian populations.

It is "Political Propaganda" that one Party or the other would go to or stop a war for "political reasons." Don't get sucked up into that... it's a game and always have been.
True Americans and patriots do what they think is right for America.
Remember when the Democrats started rallying that we need to pull out of Iraq NOW and the Republicans force a vote. Only two Democrats voted for it. Why did that happen... Republicans was showing those naive new young people that this is politics and not anything to do with the war.
Even powerful people in Washington are decent people like your neighbor. The just have a job where playing games and getting fools to believe them pays off. The political forums are full of these fools that should be concentrating on furthering themselves instead of playing games.
That's the reason James Carville and Mary Matalin have been married for so many years. Opposite ends as far as you can get, as political advisors. It's a game and they know it.
Some people never catch on just like Professional Wrestling. You have to have some screaming nuts in the crowd or it wouldn't be a show.

I feel it likely that Iran themselves will attack this country with terrorist attacks, what we must do as a nation is what we should be doing now. Be aware, look for anything that might be out of place, and report it to the proper authority's. I will give you an example. The local Family Dollar had some middle eastern looking people come in and want to buy all the cell phones that they had in stock. Family Dollar has a two phone limit and sold them the two but reported it to the authority's. It turned out that these people were just buying to resell at a profit, but could have been an attempt to aid and abet terrorist as they use throw away phones for communications. The employee's did the right thing. .

I hope that the Russians are wrong, we cannot afford to start another front in this war without undeniable provocation. We should continue to use diplomacy unless attacked by Iran.
As far as preparation, how can you really prepare for a terrorist attack? I practice with my pistols on occasion to keep sharp, have been doing so for years. I am lucky to live in a part of the country that probably will not be a focus of terrorism, not a large amount of people in western Colorado.

Republicans needn't worry Nancy P. is going to take her pearls of wisdom and solve all the problems by taking a trip over to the middle east. She'll come back with peace treaties in hand and peace and prosperity will cross the world.
Actually, our family has a natural disaster plan that is rather well thought out and would adapt quite well when terrorist attacks occur in the States.
As far as Iran, they have ONE gas refinery, so a strike there additional strikes at gas reserves, and forcing a complete embargo of all gas imports would go quite a ways to showing Iran they aren't all that special.

You have some interesting points.
To be relatively brief, I feel that the entire world knows that Iran and its political and extremist religious beliefs are scary.
Back during the cold war, we lived under the "MAD" mentality. Mutually Agreed Destruction. USSR didn't want to die, USA didn't want to die... So, it was a huge stalemate to protect our countries.
Iran's "leaders" want to bring about Armageddon so that their "God" will come back and rule under Shea Islamic law and than all of the Arabs will go to heaven and get their 72 virgins.
How do you negotiate with that? All you can do is cut out the cancer before it becomes fatal.
I Fear that if Iran gets "The bomb" they will immediately launch it as first Israel. That will cause this whole world to attack the Middle East to eradicate all Muslims / Arabs.
If we don't stop Iran, I think Russia will. Just as I feel that China will control that nut in N. Korea. They let him rant, but if he gets overt... China will crush them.

Finally found your question about my opinion and what I plan to do to prepare....
My opinion: Don't care about Iran. Strategic bombing of military targets within Iran would not turn Iranians against us.
As for preparing for terrorist threats: I'm not worried. I live in the South. We'll just turn all of those hate-filled white supremacists loose. All's fair in love and war.

What's The alternative, allow Iran to be armed with the bomb with the intentions of destroying Israel. Bush said all along that he would not permit Iran to have a bomb.
The UN has made sanctions but so far have not worked. Their president appears to be a religious nut job, who thinks he is supposed to bring about Armageddon, which will release the 13th mullah from a well.
We are living in troubling times.
