It's not just the oil, girlfriend.
It's all about the Holy Land, the conflict between Israel and the rest of Middle East.

However, I agree that, if you take the element of oil out of the equation, things might be easier.
Decisions can be made without fear of repercussions in the form of higher oil prices.

Peace in Europe must once have seemed an impossibility, the European nations were always scheming and trying to invade each other, but now they (kind of) work together for a common good. Peace can be achieved through adversity, it's just difficult to see it arising from the current situation in the middle east until all the sides make some compramises.

It's not just about oil, it's about religion, space, power, ancient conflicts long over, money - even water. There are a hundred different sides and they all can't stand each other. Yet peace and prosperity are a very powerful motive for compramise to be reached some point in the future.

LOL ,, i hate oil too .. i don;t think that it;s just about OIL , it's far beyond ,, it's a good reason i must say but even though ,, it's also about power , and fighting all those who they in their minds think that they have things to threat their power , other things beside oil ,, i believe in history , and their has always been wars in the middle east and way b4 they discover oil ,, read history
hmm , there is some ppl here saying all these bad things about Muslims ,,, i think it's bad enough that they are saying that but it's also bad that they are ignorant and knows nothing about it , the wars which has being happening here in the middle east it's all because of westerns , like crusaders , Islam brought nothing but peace to this area and that's the beliefs of Islam

Most of the political boundaries we use to divided the middle east were established at the end of either the 1st or second World War and this was done by Allied forces (UK, France US etc) These boundary's are not geographic and have never been truly accepted by the people living in that area, so with or without oil there will be Wars within that part of the world until they redefine country's within it or everyones dead.

Oil is not the be all and end all of the problems in that part of the world.

Religion also is a problem, I don't want to name any in particular but possibly the most common religions in that area are divided amongst themselves, not everyone is lucky enough to have one lead figure eg. The Pope to have the final word on religious policies.

It is not the oil sweetie. Islamic nations have been at war since the inception of their religion. I am not blaming their religion, I am just pointing out that its inception historically marks the beginning of their existance as the culture which has evolved into our time period.
In these nations, hate is a family value. Children are taught very young about their enemies and are expected to take part in fighting at a young age. This is cunducive of any culture however, if they were put in the same situation.

The one reason for all of the violence though, is ignorance. The people who are in power are also their religious leaders (they derive their power from their stature in the religious community). Because their religion is such an important part of life, these leaders use it to shape the minds of their followers in a ways that serve alterior agendas. They teach their followers only what they want them to know, shaping them to be completely submissive to their cause.

Take for example, the 77 virgins ideology. Religious leaders tell their followers that if they die martyrs for their cause, they will be greeted by 77 virgins in heaven. These men do not know anything different and jump at the idea and strap bombs to themselves and kill whoever they are told to kill because they believe that they are going to get 77 virgins.

Do you ever see Usama Bin Laden or any of the Imams or Islamic or muslim figureheads strap bombs to themselves???
No, because they are educated and know better. They are masters of deception and manipulation playing with the lives of the people that look to them for guidance.

To answer your question, war in the middle east is hardly ever over oil. It is between the cultures and will not stop unless the people become educated.

You don't hate oil as much as you will hate not having oil when it runs out in a few years time...then you will see the whole world at war.

I hate oil too. Go bicycles, go!
The problems in the middle east are so intertwined, convoluted, and sometimes petty that it will never be undone until they can start seeing past all that and just wage peace in this moment. I'm not holding my breath, but I don't discount tnat they are capable.

The 'controversial' land was seized from the Palestinians in 1947; the Muslims and the Jews do not like each other (scripturally and politically); and OIL runs everything you will touch today...

p.s. cyclists: what lubricates your cogs and wheels...how were they manufactured, how did they get to the shop where you bought it?

We're all slaves!!!

The Sunnis and the Shitia have been fighting each other for the last 900 years!

Saddam was the only one that was able to stop them which basically allowed Iraq to live somewhat in peace - despite what Republicans and Bush say about it!

Oil is an issue. People seem to never be happy with what they achieve, even after they get it...then, there's the biblical book of Revelation.
