With the NCAA season wrapping up in true-to-form fashion, I was looking forward to the Ohio State / Florida basketball championship game as a great cap to a great season...

But then I noticed it is on at 9:21 PM EST on a weekday.

Why do they constantly schedule championship games so late on a weeknight? Do you agree that it makes more sense scheduling it for a Saturday night? Most people have to get up to go to work during the week, and can't stay up that late.

College championship game was the same way. Can someone explain why the power-that-be continue to schedule the biggest games of the year on ridiculous days?

Don't you think that they would get better ratings on a Saturday night than a Tuesday or Thursday...?

I understand the spacing, but I think that the networks could hype the game for a week. I feel that the Final Four games should be Saturday, and then the championship game should be a week later.

Yes i agree with the Saturday thing, but the way the final four works is you play 2 games, and then 2 days later the championship. So in order to give the entire country the best chance to see every game, they have it set up this way. Otherwise you would have one final four game at 6pm eastern on thursday, and the other at 9pm, making the early game at 3pm on the west coast. That is the reason tonight's game is at 9pm Eastern. That way it is shown during prime time across the country. Works out better for the folks on the West coast, but over here we have to watch it late and then get up for work.

Of course the ratings would be higher on a saturday night, but unless they showed one final four game on Wed night and another on Thursday, they couldnt space it to have every game available to the entire country during prime time. And the wed/thurs situation would give one team an advantage going into the final game with an extra days rest.

Central and Mountian get the best deal on this approach. Personally I would have liked to see it start at 9:05 at least. The problem with the late start is on the east coast the game won't end till close to 11:30 or later.

It's to ballance out the air time as per tv. They try to make it not so late here and early enough when people are off from work in the west coast. They get more people watching at one time that way. Therefore they get better ratings.

I totally agree. It must be a "West Coast bias" thing.
