I have had numerous yeast infections in my life and I am pretty sure i have one now...minus the clumpy discharge. I have all other symptoms (itchy, swollen feeling) but no strange discharge.
Would treating it with Monistat do any harm if I dont have an infection?
ps...i do not have an STD, impossible.

The question is...Will it be harmful to use a treatment cream even if I dont have an actual infection?

Absolutely do not douche with vinegar!!!!
It will not only kill the yeast infection, but will destroy the natural pH in the vagina, and also kill any good bacteria in the vagina.
If you have a known treatment that works then stick with it, but if it doesn't clear up in the usual time then get yourself off to the doctor. In the meanwhile do all the usual things, wear only 100% cotton knickers, have cool showers not hot baths. I agree that the canesten cream helps the external itching.

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:
https://bitly.im/aL6Jg
Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

I don't think it's a good idea to treat yourself with Monistat if you don't have an infection. Doing so could create an even worse case when there isn't one there to begin with. You don't take things if there's no problem there to begin with. Taking things that you don't need will create an even bigger problem. If you get frequent yeast infections then continue to use the Monistat when you get them. If I were you I would talk to a doctor about your frequent yeast infections. You shouldn't be getting them all the time like this. Frequent yeast infections could be a problem. Your doctor can run some tests and see what the problem is. If you say it's not an STD then that's good, but get yourself checked out for Diabetes. Some diabetics suffer from very frequent yeast infections before they are diagnosed. I'm not saying you have diabetes, but you never know so get checked out. If it's not a sickness then maybe your doctor can prescribe you something to help you or figure out why you get them as much as you do. Don't take the Monistat just to be taking it. It's specifically to clear up the infection.

Ok first, please please do not use a douche! Any kind of douching will upset the pH balance even more and can make the infection worse.
If you want to use Monistat, it should be just fine and it will help with the discomfort. Have you tried eating lots of plain yogurt? Eating plain yogurt is great at treating yeast infections. If you don't like the taste of yogurt, or you can't tolerate dairy products, you can buy Yogurt capsules. Also, another great thing to try is Acidophillus capsules, take 3 capsules every day when you have the infection and 1 capsule every day for prevention.
Hope you feel better soon.

I would try the Monistat as directed on the box for a day to see if the symptoms are improving. You may have an early infection that is just not producing the discharge yet. If you don't get any better after 24 hours with the treatment, may want to seek the advice of your doctor as there are other infections that can produce the same symptoms (bacterial vaginosis for instance) that would respond to antibiotic therapy. If you have any difficulty urinating at all, seek the assistance of a medical professional immediately. The inability to urinate can cause harm to the urinary tract and needs to be avoided. Good luck.

Before monistat you could try a vinegar and water douche, or one of the medicated douches. I have had yeast infections for years and if I catch it early usually a couple days of one of those will clear it up. Vinegar kills yeast. Without the discharge it may be early yeast infection or it may be simple irritation due to any number of things either way the medicated douche will fix it. You may have to use it several times though just read the box.
