Windows Movie Maker cannot open quick time movies. If you want to edit the videos you capture with your digital camera, then you need to convert them to wmv or avi. Check out link below and you get a complete answer for your question:

There is a movie format.
You can play movies of windows media player on Realone but not on Quick time and Quick time movies are only for quick time or you could transfer on ipod.

WMV, windows media format
Mpeg 4 format for ipod
AVI, audio video interlace can be played on any player except Quick time.
MOV format for quick time.

You should check the setting of video camera if there are other movie format setting?
What is your digital camera's name?

I hope this could help you.

Unfortunately, WMV itself is not designed for quality. It's designed for speed and convenience. i.e. Highly compressed files, or streaming web content. I assume your camera is MiniDV or DVCAM? And you're transferring into your PC via firewire cable? If so, know that this process preserves the high quality digital image recorded by your camera. Apple Quicktime has always been the preferred format for digital video because of its focus on high quality sound and video. For 30 dollars you can upgrade your Quicktime to Quicktime Pro and export your movies out of Quicktime and into any format you like, including Windows compatible formats such as avi. (It's an inexpensive upgrade at 30 dollars if you go to www.apple.com/quicktime/pro)
