The best alternative treatment is the old treatment. This is with the natural thyroid medication called Armour thyroid. I found it to get rid of most of my hypothyroid symptoms. It is adjusted by the free t4 and free t3 blood tests, not by the TSH. I'll put some related links below.

Hi kristina, any kind of thyroid problem, regardless of cause, leads to a weight problem, and it’s usually drastic - you could find that you are gaining weight, losing it rapidly or maybe you just can’t get rid of it no matter how hard you try! This can then give rise to other weight-related diseases.
So what options are there for those who need thyroid support? Well, marine phytoplankton has come to be known as thyroid health food. The electrolytes and nutrients marine phytoplankton possesses are what the human body needs to control metabolic rate.
Another natural supplement for thyroid support showing positive results in studies is the juice of the go-ji or lyceum berry from Asia. The fruit is seen as an immunomodulator - it can balance abnormal responses in the body and is seen by many as a natural treatment for thyroid problems.

I just want to say your thyroid is attached to MANY other issues. Until I saw someone who 'got that' point...it was useless.
I just saw a doctor last week that is taking an alternative approach to ALL the hormones that are our of balance with me and they are bio-identical/natural...not synthetic ones. I already feel better and have only been on things for a few days. The only fake med he put me on is armour thyroid....like the poster above mentioned. They said they get the best results from it!
GOOD LUCK!

See if you can find the red iodine, not the clear. Then you take a put it on your thigh, a patch that is about 2 inches by 2 inches. The thyroid requires iodine...if the iodine patch stays a full 24 hours, then you don't need iodine, if however, it disappears prior to that time frame, then keep reapplying the iodine.

Before exploring alternative treatments, first determine (get determined) what is the problem, hyperthyroid (overactive gland) or hypothyroid (underactive gland). Whether any nodules are present (could be malignant). If you post your (or the patient's) detailed medical symptoms, tests carried out if any etc., I can give you better advice.

Hi Kristina...,
we Humans are not suposed to have any health problems.. especially when we stick to some natural life styles at least in some way . and atleast problem related to one particular Organ of our Body or Gland(s).
Any Health problem must be looked and treated ina wholistic way. To say, any problem is the body is not totally isolated to itself as is explained by the Doctors now a days. Thus, any problem in the body is related to whole body functions in someway.. thats where alternative therapies and treatments are to be emphasized !
As far as my knowledge is concerned, though , I am not a Doctor.. 'wholistic approach at looking about the problem is more important' ! also.." its primely important for us to not to really keep in mind these Medical terms what we hear from Doctors" . So to continue here.. Our body has evolved for millions of years and it WELL knows all the healing things and it has developed all the powers inside us.. and hence we have all the necessary powers imparted in our body.
I wouldn't say it is just an Indian Yogic way.. but its more precisely understood and perfected by ancient Indian sages. It is 'Pranayama' ! you can check for it on the WEB.
Before starting anything ... as I mentioned earlier.. it is important for us to forget the 'medical terms' and in a way look inside.
For you, again as I suggested to few on this portal, check for Pranayama. To tell more about Pranayama.. It is a breathing rythm. 'Pranayama' meaning extending Lifeforce in Sanskrit. Since we are all born with the Breathing as our life force it must be easy to understand that .. it has some particular definite functions other than giving Oxygen to the body. Its a proper breathing rythm.. which most of us go ignore due to our social stress and since this stress is all about in our minds.. it just causes worry.. without letting the mind atttending to its other natural dties about other bodily functions and corercting them or triggering the natural healing processes. So the first thing is 'stopping worrying in mind' and letting the mind have its own time to attend these correcting functions.
Calming down the body is more easy if we look at life i n simple ways. And.. if to go further .. try pranayama which actually calms down the Mind. Its a wholistic way initself.
Pranayama - is a natural breathing rythm which gets disturbed when we have worries in mind. Natural Breathing Rythm ( or pranayama ) not only, as we all thik, has a function of supplying Oxygen but it has more other important functions like giving exercise to the internal body organs.. ! whle supplying Oxygen to the body.. Breathing rythm has next important function .. li activates ( or gives such a vital movement to the Diaphram ( the organ between our Lungs and stomach ) thus healping in proper Digestion. Then this movement it extends to the the other Organs as much as they need. In this whole process it sees that what kind of the energy it assimilates from our food is most needed by which organ of our body. May be it is healing that organ.. or to make it better from its current health condition etc. This whole process goes right to the cell level in our body and corrects each cell. This is all Total or wholistic way it has and which is natutrally imarted in our body ! So talking about Thyroid Gland problem may not be a big issue for such wholistic approach.. which I hope you can understand by now !
Check for Pranayama on the WEB !
to put it all in a concise way here for you ! - Exhaling in our breath must be as much slow as possible than the inhaling. Also, we must always see that our stomach rises up while we inhale and it goes down while we exhale. You can check for 'Pranayama' on web ! and http://www.dhamma.org/ might be of interest to you !
Good luck !
