Did your friend put you up to reading it? Someone on Yahoo! Answers? Just curious, 'cause I read it, loved it, and it seems that everyone loves it up here, too.

No, seriously, I saw the movie and loved it - so I had to read the book.

Of course I saw the movie as a child-have always been a big reader so when I learned it was made from a book I had to read it-about 9 or 10.

this is my favorite movie and book. i saw the movie for the first time when i was about 8 or 9 and then i read the book. i have seen this movie at least 50 times since then and i have reread the book a few times.

After becoming familiar with the film and the author Margaret Michell. 99% of the novels that I read take place in the south. I love reading about the antebellum period and the years after slavery up until the 1950's.

I saw the movie so I read the book. I was so into it and I am a speed reader. It took me 55 minutes.

I didn't, I saw the movie and It was awful. So everyone loves the book eh? Is it any better than the movie? Might try it someday.

I became obsessed by the movie a few years ago; so I took it further and bought the book - I needed my fix. I also borrowed Scarlett which was its sequel on video. I think I'm a hardcore fan!
