how about the other positions?

In this day and age... yeah they do. They all need an excuse for when they drop the pass, and whats a better excuse than having crappy gloves. Football players now can't catch nearly as good as they were able to in previous years, as a whole, since they've adapted to the use of gloves so they haven't really been forced to catch with their hands.

Yes, wide receivers do need gloves because nowadays they have these gloves that are supposed to help you catch the ball better. The only other positions that I think should wear gloves are running backs, safeties and corner backs.

I played wide receiver in high school and linebacker in college and pro in Europe. While not always popular, gloves will help a wide receiver, or anyone who is catching the ball. During the game, you start to sweat, and your hands get wet. Early on, you just wipe them on your thigh pads. As the game continues, you get dirty, and can't use your pants anymore. A few years back, college rules were changed so that only the center and quarterback are allowed to have a towel. And good kid-skinned gloves actually provide a better grip when they are a little damp from perspiration. Linemen use them to protect their hands and fingernails from getting ripped out.

you really don't need gloves. Some wear the gloves. It depends on the player. I know that some wear the gloves when it's cold at the gloves.

No, when it is -4 degrees F in Foxboro and the ball feels like a bloomin' rock only sissies think it is cold.

(For you southerners, I'm being sarcastic. You guys send coaches up here in late Decembrrrrrr who wear light sweaters while Belichick looks ready for an assault on K2. Don't be idiots. Cold is cold.)

When it isn't cold (say Miami vs Arizona), getting used to gloves is not a bad idea.

It's a matter of personal preference. Some wear gloves and some don't.

Most do not 'need' them. Some prefer them. Also, in cold weather, they can help with feeling.
Also, stickum is against the rules of every organized football I know of, from high school thru NFL.

No they don't need them---just spray "stick em'" on their hands.

I was a nose-guard and could of used cast with stainless steel knuckles inlayed in them. The line of scrimmage is rough!!!

It's not a requirement but almost all do to help them catch.
