What you have there is a Winged Liberty Head or more commonly referred to as the Mercury dime, although the coin does not depict the Roman messenger god, nor does it contain any mercury. The obverse figure is a depiction of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of liberty and freedom, with its wings intended to symbolize freedom of thought. The dime is struck in 90% silver composition and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful US coin designs ever produced. The 1928-dated Mercury Dimes have mintages of 19,480,000(Philadelphia Mint without any alphabet on the bottom of reverse after the word "ONE"), 4,161,000(Denver Mint with "D"), 7,400,000(S.Francisco Mint with "S"), and these figures are somewhat high so the coin isn't rare. According to my latest May 2007 coin magazine, the 1928 and 1928-S dimes have retail values of $3 to $7 in average circulated grades, and down to about $2 if they're very worn. The 1928-D from Denver is worth more money, from $10 to $25 in average circulated down to $4.50 in worn condition(shows the entire head weak and most details in the wing worn smooth). May not be worth much, but a nice find nevertheless.

This is a liberty dime ,sometimes called a Mercury dime .
You need to describe the condition in more detail and look on the reverse for a mint mark.
A 1928d is worth $900 in mint state 65
A 1928 s in mint state 65 is worth $500.
The worse condition the less you will get .Well worn will bring 80cents to $1.00

Silverpet gave you the scoop on the Winged Liberty Head dime with a retail price. She even told you where the mint mark is. Now for the dealer price the 1928 value in good $1.05 to $3 in extra fine. 1928-D $2.75 to $37 in the same grade spread and the 1928-S $1.25-$13.50. These prices are about what a coin dealer will pay. If you wish to try to grade your coin email me here at Yahoo and I will send you some grading info. You can also see a coin dealer and have him grade it for you.

SOunds like a Mercury dime... it has the image of the Greek (Roman??) god, Mercury... the guy with the wings on his helmet, because he was fast... or something like that (I've forgotten all the mythology I studied in college)... anyway, here is a 1928 Mercury dime I found for you on ebay:
