The problem seems to be with the lock or the latch mechanism for the door. It sounds like the lock linkage but could be a stuck latch. (The latch is what secures the door and releases the door; the lock simply prevents the latch from releasing the door)

The chances are more that the problem is with the lock linkages than with the latch.

It would be unusual for the problem to be with the latch linkage as there are separate linkages for the inside and outside handles, but I guess they could both come off.

there is no easy way to do this. You will need to start by removing the front driver's seat. There are four bolts under the seat, one at each corner of the seat track. You need to remove the seat to be able to get to the door panel so that you can remove that panel to get inside the door and access the latch. The lock linkage is attached to the latch assembly

You remove the door panel by taking out the screws behind the interior door handle release and under the arm rest. You also need to remove the window switches. There may also be a bolt under the switch or a window crank if you don't have the power windows. With all of the screws and hardware off, you can pull gently on the outer edges of the interior trim panel to unseat the clips. Then push the panel upward to remove it. If there is resistance on top, you may have to reconnect the window switch to lower the window then try again to remove the panel. then, put the window up and follow the rod from the interior door handle to the latch and try to operate the latch manually by pushing or pulling on the connective lever. If the door still won't open, then the latch will have to be unbolted from the inside and removed to repair or replace

this is not a job for someone who doesn't have the experience or ability. If you are thinking "what am I in for?" then take it to someone who can do it without damaging the seat, door panel or interior door components. My guess is if it is the linkage it will be about $200 to repair; if its the latch about $300.
