Good movie. Go ahead and rent it. It is based on actual events........and much to my surprise I learned the movie was more factual than most that were inspired by true stories.
The following comment will not distract from the viewing experience and serves to illustrate my point:
One of the few inaccuracies I discovered was the portrayal of the hero (single father) took a stock brokerage job for six months with supposedly no pay. It is common knowledge these positions pay a minimal subsistence salary (usually $1,000 per month or so) since they can't expect anyone to get by without any compensation.

I'd give it 3 stars out of 5...never come in to a movie with expectations - whenever I do it, I always get disappointed. It was good..ish, like nothing special. Had some funny bits but eh. It's a family movie.

It was a great, amazing movie but it was very depressing. When something good finally happens, something horrible happens. But, it did help me realize that there are people out there a WHOLE lot worse off then I am. I would suggest you watch it with the remote in hand so you can stop it when it gets too intense.

It's not at all bad, it's just that it should've been a made-for-tv movie of the week instead of a big feature with a big star. Will Smith was great but the story is the real star here :-)

It is a really good movie, a little sad but good, I saw it in the movie theater and also rented because I wanted to see it again.

a lot of people thought it wasn't good, but I did because I can relate to the character Will Smith played.. I have had to struggle and go through a lot growing up and as an adult...so it rerally depends on your schemata and life experiences..I cried at the end b/c I know where hard work can get u and how hard it is to follow your dreams and be successful in life especially for blackmen

It was well acted. You can almost feel the frustrations of the character and the hard work he goes through to become a success. It's also based on a true story. Very good I thought. A tear-jerker. Def. gets your emotions flowing.

Unless it's REALLY bad, how much can you lose? It's not much to rent a movie, after all. Give it a try; if you enjoy it, that's good; if not, then you really haven't lost a lot of money or anything :-)
