If you're "bad', Santa punishes you at Christmas. You can't see Santa or see any evidence of him, but your parents told you he is real.
Pretty much the same with the general mythology of a god.

At one point, Santa was a real person; God has never existed, as far as empirical evidence goes.

I agree. You forgot to include the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy. I thought that they were real at one time, too.

Santa came from a real guy named Saint Nick who actually passed out gifts to kids. I'm sure he believed in god and did this because he loved god. The punishing thing for santa is not the same as what people believe god does, he just won't give you a present, god causes real pain. But the point is both are real to the people who believe in them.

You're the reason I don't lie to my kids about Santa, or the tooth fairy, or the easter bunny. It's hard to teach someone faith in God when you're lying to them about every other person they can't see but are supposed to believe in.
The comparison is way off though...
Santa is a variant of a European folk tale based on the historical figure Saint Nicholas, a bishop from present-day Turkey, who supposedly gave presents to the poor. This inspired the mythical figure of Sinterklaas, the subject of a major celebration in the Netherlands (where his alleged birthday is celebrated), which in turn inspired both the myth and the name of Santa Claus.
Since Saint Nicholas died many many years ago and won't be bringing my children any presents we do the gift giving ourselves... and even during Saint Nicks time, if a child was bad and did not recieve a gift it would be nothing like having the wrath of the almighty brought down on you. God has not shown his punishment in a way that is broad enough and obvious enough for everyone to understand in a long time... but if you read the bible you would understand that there is genuine reason to fear him. The "Fear of God" is very real and should not be takn lightly... At Christmas we tell our children that we are celebrating the birth of Jesus, and that the exchange of gifts is based upon the gifts the wise men brought Jesus as he slept in the manger that night... I'm not sure if God is jealous of santa or not, but I have enough respect for God not to replace him with a commercialized, watered down representation of a saint from long ago.
God, on the other hand, gives us gifts year round. None of us are promised tomorrow, so the fact we're sitting here having this discussion is a testament to the gift of this day alone. And I consider each one of my kids a gift from God, and every day I have with them is a gift also. Alot of people go to God only when times are hard and they are in need, or they have someone close to them that falls ill. It's in these times that most people seek God, looking for help, or for an answer. You never hear of anyone praying to santa for their cancer to go into remission, or for their loved one to fight off a terminal illness or come home safe from a War.
I think 99.9% of the people today can easily make a distinction between God and his importance and santa.... their really is no comparison.

You don't read anything about Santa creating the world. Nothing about Santa dying so all humanity could be redeemed. Santa doesn't demand submission to Him, as does Allah.
The word Santa means saint.

Those are mighty small criterion for comparison! Using those methods, we can say that you are like a piece of similiarly-colored construction paper!
You're both soft and relatively useful, and neither one of you can think!

you come to two different conclusions.
i came to know santa wasnt real because the FACTS disproved it to be so.
but when i believed in the mockery of preaching, i was quickly reproved that there is a God.
there are so many witnesses that there is a God, because he answers prayers and visits the repentant, but there is no proof of santa
