more scripts to fill, don't you think that is scarey? Should pharmacy techs be filling our presciptions?

It would be better if pharmacy techs were over 21. But I usually see kids working as techs.

That's part of their job.

You might also find it interesting - or scary - that the IV fluid people receive in hospitals are made by pharmacy technicians too.

I work in a hospital pharmacy and I fill ALL the medication and I make ALL the IV fluid. All the pharmacist does is come over, check it, and mark it with their initial. That's it! And they are the ones getting paid $50 a hour, not the technicians.

At my work this is basically what happens:
1. The pharmacist enters the order into the computer
2. Labels print out and I fill them
3. The pharmacist checks my work and initials it
4. It gets sent up to the floors and is given to the patient

The technicians do almost all of the work in pharmacies. By law, the pharmacist has to check the technicians work, but they rarely fill prescriptions themselves.

Actually, it's the techs that usually check the Pharmacist. I can't tell you how many times I've worked with a Pharmacist that kept giving the wrong meds. Got so bad, that people would wait just to request that I fill their scripts.

Well, pharmacy techs go through a rigorous schooling to do what they do (count pills, basically) the pharmacist has enough on their plate by answering questions on the side effects of certain drugs, and giving the ok to refill a prescription by a physician. He/she couldn't do all that and fill prescriptions. Sometimes they can do both but it's rare nowadays. I personally think monkeys could be excellent pill counters, but I'm the sort of person who would say, "one for you, five for me" :o)

Pharmacists should take all the time they want. This BS about Walgreens wanting their Pharmacists to process 350 prescriptions per shift is Jive. Not even a robot can move that fast. I think I'll stop shopping at Walgreens anyway.

I heard on Paul Harvey yesterday that a man died recently from a tech (HS kid) giving him the wrong meds. Yep, its scarey.

Doesn't bother me. The pharmacist checks the imprint on the pills to make sure it's the right stuff before they give it to me.
