Good luck if it is you looking into abortion. Please consider having the baby or giving it to someone that cannot have children.

Purple Lily did a great job at describing the various procedures for abortions and the options, but I'll tell you from experience from someone I know who had one.

No, they do not hurt. You can get them done at Planned Parenthood or other abortion clinics. You must first go through several evaluations before they'll do the actual procedure on you. One of the evaluations is with a doctor who will sit you down in private and make sure that getting the abortion is what you want. They'll go over all your options with you just in case you change your mind, then they'll tell you the options you have for the abortion, vacuum or by pill. Here are the differences between the two:
The pill: You'll take a series of pills two days apart or whatever is directed by your doctor. The pills are baically high dosages of "plan B" the pill that stops pregnancy's after you've had sex.
You'll have severe cramping, but I believe that is the only major side effect of actually taking the pills. The effective rate for the pill abortion is about 96%, although there are chances you would still have to have the vacuum procedure done to get rid of any left over pregnancy.

The vacuum procedure has a much higher effective rate at 100%. You can choose several options for drugs to be knocked out with. Anything from local to completely knocked out. My friend had the local, and was asleep during the entire procedure.
They'll literally stick a vacuum inside your uterus and vacuum out any pregnancy. You won't feel anything during the procedure itself, but afterwards you may feel some cramping and bleeding or spotting.
You won't remember anything that happens because of the drugs you are given, but it's basically quick and painless. I believe for my friend, from the time she was given the drugs utnil the time she was in recovery was about 10 minutes, maybe less. She doesn't remember anything except being hearing the sound of the vacuum.

Recovery is quick, except for cramping, is painless. You can resume your normal day that same day, although you may not feel like it. My friend did hers on a Friday and spent the rest of the weekend relaxing before going back to work on Monday.

Don't forget though, you'll also get a follow up with the doctor about a week or two after the procedure is done, to make sure they got everything and you're not experiencing any side effects.

Hope this answered your questions for you.

First of all, abortion is murdering an innocent child. You play you pay. Try having the child and if you still don't want it when it is born, give it to a couple that cannot have children. There are so many wonderful people that would love to have a family. That can be the most precious gift to them. You will be taking a life that God created for a reason.
I hope you know they will make you watch it when it happens, so you can see when they take the baby out, and smash it skull in and throw it away like garbage. They use something like a vacuum cleaner to suck out the baby and then smash it's skull in. You will not get to sleep through it, you will be wide awake and you will hear and see it all.
Unless there are complications you will not need to stay in the hospital. You will probably bleed some afterwards and there may be some cramping. You also may never be able to have any more children after this, Sometimes it permanently scars the uterus, causing infertility.
Think about this before it is done. It will haunt you for the rest of your life and you will regret it as soon as you do it. Give the baby up for adoption.

First off...how far along are you? If 9 weeks and under you can get what they call a "medical abortion"...which they just give you pills that you either take orally or insert into your vagina. It feels like a heavy period and you dont have to go through the whole invasive process. You dont have to be in the hospital for abortions....unless something goes wrong. Which there is risks with every invasive procedure. I had two abortions...one where they did the vacuum suction..and the second one i chose to do the medical...which was a better choice for me. I highly recommend it. they will give you pain medication...and if you chose to do the vacuum suction...i would highly recommend to be sedated.

sweetie there are many differnt ways to have an abortion it just depend on how far along you are say if you were 2 months or less you could get a medicated abortion wich you have to take the medicin consistantly for a period of time or you could have a vacum abortion which you could have done in the first trimester at any time it only takes one day usually done in a hospital or clinic these are the two most commen procedures also they can be confidential (in other words hidden from you parents if your under age) at planned parent hood

Early in pregnancy, you have two options for ending a pregnancy — medication abortion or abortion by vacuum aspiration. (The information about procedures is presented alphabetically.) Medication abortion is the use of medicine to end a pregnancy. Vacuum aspiration is the use of gentle suction to end pregnancy.

After the first trimester, dilation and evacuation (D&E) is the most common abortion procedure. In a D&E, the cervix is slowly stretched open. The procedure is completed by emptying the uterus using a combination of suction and medical instruments. Another option, induction — in which premature labor is induced with various medicines — is not widely available.

Vacuum Aspiration and D&E
You should not have vacuum aspiration or D&E if you

are unsure about having the procedure

Special considerations may be necessary if you

are extremely overweight
are running a fever
have an infection in your uterus
have certain kinds of sexually transmitted infections
have certain serious health problems
have problems with anesthesia
have seizures more than once a week

Medication Abortion
There are two types of medication abortion offered in the U.S. — mifepristone medication abortion and methotrexate medication abortion. Mifepristone and methotrexate affect the body differently. Mifepristone is used more often than methotrexate because it is more effective and more predictable. Mifepristone is 96-97 percent effective. Methotrexate is about 92-96 percent effective.

Some women prefer medication abortion because they feel its benefits outweigh its risks. Other women prefer vacuum aspiration abortion because they feel its benefits outweigh its risks. Your clinician can help you decide, but the choice is up to you.

I don't want to gross you out, but since you want to know everything, you ought to look at some of the abortion websites and see what procedures are avaliable-you will probably see some disturbing pictures. Depending on how far along you are, there are several ways to get rid of the problem-if you're just a few weeks along, they could give you a pill that might force a miscarriage. The might also offer you a "vaccuum" abortion, where they will insert a tool into your cervix to open it up and then another tool to (sorry for this) cut the baby up into smaller pieces to make it easier to "suck" out of you. If not done properly, the technician could scrape your uterus, casusing you to bleed out more than normal. You could bleed lightly for 3-4 weeks afterward. There's also a chemical abortion where they will open your cervix again and squirt a saline solution inside, which will burn the baby inside and cause it to die and eventually you'll pass it in the form of a miscarriage or they will perform a vaccuum procedure on you. If you're really far along, people will still perform late term abortions called "partial birth" abortions, where they will open your cervix and pull the moving baby out of you feet first until the neck is even with your labia...they won't pull it out all the way since then it would be "born," and then they will take scissors and snip the baby's spinal cord to kill it. Then they will pull out the remains. They could sedate you or just numb you....but you will feel it afterwards, and I know women who still break down when they hear vaccuum cleaners. I don't know anyone who was ever truly happy with their choice to abort. It depends on how long it takes for each procedure--you'll need to do some online research and make some phone calls. You could need to be placed in a hospital if something goes wrong with the procedure and you lose too much blood afterwards. You'll have pretty bad period-like cramps, and worse emotional issues, you know? So, yes, it will hurt in more than one way. Really, look up some of those sites. It's really hard to look at the pictures (I threw up), but it's really helpful to do the research and see what really happens so you're not unprepared when you're in the clinic. They will not be friendly or understanding with you, and everyone knows why you're there when you're in the waiting room--I've heard it's pretty shameful/embarassing. They also cost upwards of $500 or more, and if you're under 16 you generally need parental/guardian consent, which means you're right there with them when you go into the clinic. It would be most unwise if you decide to go through with the procedure to find a "cheap" place...you don't want to put your health at risk. I've given you lots of information, and based on what you've written, I take it you weren't raped or you would have mentioned something so you don't get crazies commenting...but you need to seriously think about the questions you're asking and the act you committed with some guy who got you pregnant. Your questions are all self-based. You need to ask yourself what you believe-when is the baby considered "living" to you? When does it cross the line and become too much to infllict on another human that can't do anything about it? You're worried if it hurts. Imagine what the baby goes through. At least, AT LEAST tell your parents or a pastor-don't depend on yahoo answers. I know you're lost and alone now. You need to find some support around you. There are programs with parents who can't have kids where they will pay YOU for carrying the baby you'll give up to them for adoption-your prenatal fees and such. There are worse things than fessing up for your mistake, and I hope you can see that it's not worth it to "make the problem go away." Wouldn't it be better to have support and go through with it? What would help you learn the lesson more, committing something worse than murder, or one hard conversation with your parents and the delivery of someone else's potential miracle? I hope you're strong enough to know the latter is the easier path.

Before I give any answer you need to think long and hard about your decision. Its permanent, life altering and can be psychologically harmful to yourself.
As for the procedure it all depends on how far along you are.
Its usually a 2 day procedure where the first say they stick a long bundle of seaweed like stuff inside you to dialate your cervix... Then on the second day they go in and do business... Your not always put under, and not always goven pain meds and if you are it hurts like hell when they wear off( I dont know from personal experience but have a friend who does) You will bleed and cramp and be very sore for about 1-2 weeks...
Think about your options, and good luck in what you choose!

You should go to webmd.com or type it into a yahoo search engine. Having an abortion does not take that long, and it definatly does not hurt as much as having a baby. You do not have to be in the hospital as you will be awake durin the procedure and it is minimally innvasive. You should have someone there with you though, so you don't have to drive afterwards and you have some support.
