i haven't been able to write for 2 years now, I have ideas and projects in mind but I am not able to find their voice - i am still able to work on projects in a detached way but haven't had the creative juices flowing for some time now. I've tried reading self help/creativity books but still nothing that has provided me with reasonable tools to use towards unblocking -

i appreciate any guidance you can offer

I understand exactly what you're going through, I went through a writing block that lasted about a year and half. After some inner exploration of my thoughts, I found my block was connected to something that had happened that year before. If you can, try to remember when you first discovered this block, it could help to remove it.

Also, I found that when you have a block try to do short activities that require your brain to push your creativity further. Ask people around you for activity ideas (if it's a project your searching to release) if it's a story ask for random topics and form a story out of it...

Sometimes you just have to wait it out. For me, it came all in a rush, once I discovered the reason behind my block, my brain was throwing so many ideas at me that I could hardly write fast enough! :)

Good Luck!

Take a trip or doe something that breaks your current routine (but carry a notebook with you - for the just in case moment) basically your routine may be stifling your creative juices - also review your past work and see if there something that seems unfinished and starts some sparks - to be worked on - the focus for you should be looking within not looking externally for answers

After two years? I don't know what to tell you.
In my case, I do other things - get my mind away from the project. Do something totally unrelated and forget about the lack of creative juices.

Bummer, Daner. I would sidle up to the goal of serious writing. Every day you must do something.

Creativity should be fun and rewarding. Try being a bit out there and crazy.

Tomorrow: write 5 totally outlandish, exaggerated sentences about the most disgusting food you ever ate, but that you would like your worst enemy to eat. Sell it!

Try reading some books by people that you really admire. Also, find things in life that inspire you. Then, when you need some creativity, you can just think of those things and you will have some inspiration to help you.

I have had extended periods of writer's block and extended periods of prolific writing and everything in between. I have tried to write through writer's block and I have tried to edit previous works when i have writer's block and i have stopped writing altogether when i have writer's block and nothing seems to matter...something will trigger me, some emotional event usually, and i suddenly just need to get it down. when what drives you is authentic that is usually when you find your voice. i don't fret over it. i have faith that because my best work is when i write from my heart that i will write at the level that satisfies me when something affects me deeply. it might even be a memory that triggers me so it doesn't have to be "in real time."

don't angonize over this. accept it, live your life and one day, voila, you'll be sitting at your computer with tears streaming down your cheeks knowing you are writing again, the way you want to write.
