My greatest fear is a bit out of the ordinary-in a word, decay. Nothing scares me more than the slow decay of everything, even matter dissolving as the clock ticks away. I don't mean to creep you out or scar you forever, but think about it--decay is everywhere. No matter what, you can't escape it. Someday, everyone will fall apart. You might grow old, you might die early, you might go insane. In every instance, in every scenario, at least a part of you, if not your whole you, falls apart. Often, all three are combined in some fashion. No matter how powerful or smart or beautiful you are, everyone is made equal by the darkness. The only thing I've found that defeats this fear is God and Christ. Everything else, as powerful as it or they are, is insufficient. And don't think for a second I haven't looked. I've spent much of my life miserably running from inevitability. It seems, however, that inevitability was for once on my side, for it pushed me back to the one thing that could save me from my fears. Only the Eternity of God defeats decay, which tears down even the very molecules around us. However, God is beyond such things, and can take me beyond such things. I have found real peace and truth in this conviction, a conviction which nothing can and nothing will shake. Say what you want about my "naive" beliefs-I've heard it all from myself. I know He is there, and that only He has the power to save. I defy anyone who says otherwise. Ultimately, all your supposed intellectualism, all your deep thoughts, will all succumb to the instinct of fear, and you will become an animal cowering before decay, cowering before what you've made as your destiny. This is a destiny that only God can save us from. Trust me on this, I've tried to save myself, and failed horribly and in ways I'd rather not remember or admit. I've hurt those I love and nearly killed myself. Luckily, I had God on my side. Who's on yours?

For my 3.5 year old daughter and the kind of society she has to grow up in. It makes me wonder if having a child was selfish sometimes :-(
