This is very hard to explain. I want to make something like a stamp where if I put ink or another colored liquid on the protruding letters and therefore the imprint of the protruding letters could be stamped on to a paper creating the letters that were on the stamp to be on the paper. Sort of like a typewriter.

If you have seen the movie "National Treasure," then remember the scroll that had the riddle on it in the begining of the movie? That is exactly what I want.

Is there some way I can do this? Any ideas???

Thanks!

There are lots of materials you can make into "stamps". Which ones you'd use might depend on the size and type of lettering you wanted to make (tiny like for a typewriter? or much larger??). (I didn't see the movie, so can't tell anything from that).

Just a few of the ways to make a "stamp" would be:

...cut out letters from Fun Foam (or some kind of smooth sponge), then glue onto a wood block or something else if stiffness is necessary

...carve a white eraser or some "linoleum" from an art supply store

...carve a potato or carrot

...glue string or something else to a block of wood in the shape of letters

Then apply paint or ink, etc., to the stamp and press onto paper or whatever.

You might want to check out this page at my site for a lot of ways of making letters, including with polymer clay:

(... look at the subcategories under LETTERING...)

And this page is all about making "stamps" (for use on polymer clay, and/or made from polymer clay, but still lots of ideas):

(...especially the category called OTHER WAYS OF MAKING STAMPS
.. that page also lists various places where you can have rubberstamps made, in any size and shape you want --HAVING STAMPS MADE...)

When i was younger, I used to carve outlines of the letters on a radish or carrot. Then using a colored ink, simply stamp the letters onto a piece of paper. The only thing was the carved letters needs to be written as a mirror image.

This is a great website listing all the ways you can emboss - dry embossing, heat embossing, etc.

You will be able to find most, if not all materials, in your local craft store, probably in or near the scrapbooking or rubber stamping sections.

I am not sure what you mean exactly but by protruding do you mean embossed? If so try a abasing machine. Try Micheal's or Jo Ann's I have even seen it for sale on Costco's web site.

You can buy an embosser at a store that sells stationary.
